Library Closed Today

Yes time off. Government employees have good benefits and extra holidays off it seems.

Please don't get mad at me if you are/were a government employee.

Especially since they work 6 days a week.
But do they really work 6 days a week? The library may be open 6 days but they may have part time employees also. I'm assuming they are 5 days a week as standard. I don't know for sure. Maybe you have some inside knowledge? (not being smart here, just wondering)

The local library here is normally open from 10 am to 8 pm Monday thru Wednesday and 10 am to 3 pm on Friday and Saturday. Closed Sunday. They have reverted back to curbside pic-ups until, further notice.

That could be. I don't know. :)

Our library reduced hours to two days a week and this is for quite a few months now. And now until the end of January it will be curbside pickup only twice a week.

This is difficult for those without a computer who depended on the library access.

Most businesses close early on the 31st. The library probably has learned from history that they have few customers that day. I think it’s also a cost savings. In the past ours used to close for a week. Since I get all my books online now, it doesn’t affect me.

I agree. Libraries are really a source for many. Libraries in California I don't think are the best. I've been to other states where the libraries are much more stocked and have very current books. Everything seemed old at my library.

I don't utilize them much because I can be a slow reader and I don't like to worry about the time line. Books can get pricy. When I feel I can again, I'll go to the thrift store for books.

I have been trying to access some of the older books from the library but most have been discontinued, they cannot keep everything. I love it when they have book sales.

Thrift stores are a great source for those. Picked up a few older Mary Higgins Clark last week. Did not even recognize her picture on the book jacket.

One of my sisters works at the public library in our hometown. They are usually off on Christmas Eve and the New Year Eve to extend their time off during these holidays. This time off is taken off of their accrued vacation hours. The employees take turns in working a Saturday. During that week, they actually work six days and are off three days the following week. Strange schedule, but that is how it is done. I don't like it because my sister is the oldest employee at the public library and has to stand all day on some of the days. She doesn't want to retire though. o_O:sneaky:

@PamfromTx I can relate to your sister working when no longer young and having to stand. Every job I have ever had has been on my feet. 6 days straight is a bit much when you are older. I hope your sister will choose to retire. Thanks for the information relating to library hours.

Sis says she is not ready to retire.
