Well, there is, in fact, life after death, just not in the way you are imagining it in this context. All things in life die and become other living things. The forest and every living thing on earth has died a million times over, and yet they are still there. The energy that is in life is just recycled. From the time you were a single cell till now, all the molecules in your body have come from things your mother ingested, and you ingested after birth. They collectively became "you". When you die, the reverse happens, you eventually become them, and again, eventually they become part of other things.
However, the conscious concept of "you" is another matter. What is the "me" that is in my mind? I kinda think of it as an ongoing mental image you mind has constructed of itself. The "you" that you are experiencing now has been updated from the "you" that you were experiencing when you were 10. It's just a fluid concept that the brain builds from information and experience.
I think when a person dies, that dies as well. The life energy goes on, but the "you" doesn't. That's my view of this subject.
