Linemen working in hurricane hit areas in North Carolina not getting paid and have stopped work. The company/ies only want to pay them per diem for now.

Work stoppage resolved after linemen demand full compensation for recovery efforts

The primary employer is Next Era Communications who subbed out the work to other other companies which is pretty common with utilities in many areas. There was also a recruiter involved.

The linemen said this is the first time they had an issue like this.

What ever the emergency someone needs to make sure responders like this get paid. Also shows some of the issues with sub contracting.
 

But companies like that need to hire workers like those. it seems odd that they'd pull such a stunt willingly.

I suspect the problem lies further up the food chain toward the moneybags.

But it sounds like the work stoppage has been resolved.
 

I've worked for a company that got a lot of sub contract work for the big boys and we got approximately 50% of what they were charging the actual customer. That's another thing with subcontractor-the customer frequently thinks they are getting a company employee not realizing they are getting a contractor under pressure for productivity/quantity, not quality. The contractors accept it because it gives them work and contracts make it so they can't be used like an hourly company employee. Everything must be spelled out in the contract.

But with this the lineman seem about 3rd or 4th in the chain contractors.
