Here is the map showing the areas where listeria has been found in Boars Head deli meat products. This alert is just now coming out, so more areas may be affected than are shown on this map.
It might be wise to avoid these deli products for a while until the bad ones have all been recalled.

I hope they trace more of this crap to its source so we don't see more of it in the future. It seems too widespread impacting too many different products to just be a bad batch created after something didn't get washed.

The deli counter clerk assured me it was safe but after seeing there was another recall, I threw out the Boar's Head ham I bought yesterday. Better safe.
The folks at Tops Friendly Markets closed their delis for a day while they tossed everything and disinfected coolers, equipment, work surfaces, etc…

Listeria is a serious bacteria but it is also a fact of life with deli meats, fresh cheese, some fresh fruits and vegetables.

We had a similar outbreak in this area earlier this year and sadly there will be others.

I would be cautious and pay attention to the alerts but I wouldn’t be overly concerned unless I had some serious underlying medical condition.

I worked in a food factory where the inhouse lab constantly took samples of the product for such things. Also the machinery being properly sanitized to prevent such things. Our factory never had an incident of contaminated food in the 43 years that I worked there. We prided ourselves in our safe food record.
Which Canadian company did you work for, that had such a stellar food safety record ? Working for the same company for 43 years is quite unusual.

I'm not sure where people are getting the idea that the recent listeria outbreaks in deli meats, produce, ice cream, etc. are occurring at the retail shop level. It strains credulity that simultaneous outbreaks in different categories of products widely dispersed geographically are occurring in the shops, while largely being isolated to particular brands of products.

Sanitizing the deli, then slicing up a new loaf of meat-slurry product somehow makes it safe? Sounds like beating a drum to keep the elephants away.

You're dealing with, in the absence of any real testing, an invisible threat.

As far as sanitizing the deli, that's a measure to insure that deli practices aren't contributing to the spread of the bacteria.

I never buy Boar's Head anyway. They're overpriced, not superior and try to squeeze out other brands in the delis. The company is very aggressive and when their reps are in a store, they sometimes pressure the clerks to "push" customers to try Boars Head instead of what they ordered.

I know none of this has anything to do with listeria and I apologize. I just needed to rant. No response is expected.

I didn't know this about Boar's Head reps. Maybe they used to work as Pharmaceutical Company reps.

The deli section of a local grocery store shut down entirely to sanitize due to the Boar's Head contamination. We're in a heat wave so cold cuts are desirable.

I don't buy deli meats anymore and when I did I had started cooking/heating up the meats in part to hopefully kill off what ever and make it tastier.

I was sorry to read about this, and also threw out my Boar's Head deli, even though it wasn't the type of meat on the contamination list. But I figured, why take chances? I usually love that brand. Hope it was just a one-time thing.

I suppose I can see a deli counter shutting down and sterilizing to combat cross-contamination of other products sold there. Wise move, but it won't solve the source problem. Something is going on for so many products to turn up positive for listeria.

Don't have to worry about me and deli meats. I saw that besides the many sickened, two people died, one was from New Jersey.
