Local Senior's Group starting to charge "admission"

I am really getting fed up with this group. I am a charter member, so I hate to quit, but, for the last year the person that seems to be in charge had never been on time. We are supposed to start at 11 am. She seldom gets there before 11:30, then has to fuss with coffee urns, food trays, etc. Then when she finally gets settled, she has to keep jumping up to greet late comers. If we get going noon, it's a miracle. Being a very punctual person, this irks the **** outta me.

I am so with you here. A once in a blue moon late arrival is understandable, but if it becomes a consistant habit that is wrong. Is there someone who would be comfortable enough to bring it up to her? I am irked when some feel that because we are older, or retired, we have no where else to be, so why worry about the time. Really?

To me, there's no excuse (except sudden emergency or illness) for being late. 1) You know the time an event is scheduled to start, 2) you know about how long it takes to get yourself ready and to get to the venue, 3) plan accordingly.

This woman actually has 2 helpers, but they usually just stand around gossiping with people and don't help much with setups and programming.

I did bring it up to the program director. She said she was sorry I felt that way, but she has other responsibilities that over-ride the senior's. She baby sits her grandkids, so she has to find someone to stay with them when she comes to the meeting (seems this could be arranged ahead), she has the refreshments to prepare and transport (again, plan accordingly). Also, she is part of local government, so sometimes she has to attend public functions. Four months ago, she was an hour and 20 minutes late because she had to attend the new playground dedication (postpone the senior's meeting for a more convenient time).

See, there's really no excuse.

If they're calling it a donation then you should be admitted whether you bring something or not and feel fine about it. If it's mandatory, a fee, then the program is no longer free. I would have a problem with that.

I'd just either bring the food or quit going, and be done with it either way. No sense in getting my panties all in a twist about it either way. Life's too short.
