Looking For A Good Homemade Salad Dressing..

I am looking for a new dressing for my salad..
Generally, I use:

1 T Apple cider vinegar (or red wine vinegar)
2 T oil (usually EVOO or Canola)
1 1/2 T maple syrup or honey
1 dash of dijon mustard (to allow the oil and vinegar to mix)
1 dash of worchester sauce

Now this isn't bad but we are looking for something new and different.. I refuse to use the store bought bottled dressings..

Only dressing I ever made was mayo with red wine vinegar and italian spices. I don't like the idea of anything sweet in my dressings. I know what you mean about the store bought brands, very pricey with junk ingredients and preservatives. Also, the ones you buy in health food stores taste pretty bad, IMO.

I make a lot of salad dressings but I don't measure anything anymore so I'm not able to give an exact recipe.

I make one similar to your own. Start where you are and leave out the worcestershire sauce. Add in about 2 Tbls. of frozen orange juice concentrate. You might not need the honey so leave it for last. A pinch of salt really brings out the flavor. I do mean a tiny pinch.

My husband's mother used to make a concoction of mayonnaise, lemon juice, dill pickle relish and a squirt of ketchup. He loves this stuff. I tone it down by adding a little mayo to plain nonfat yogurt. He calls it "Pink Salad Dressing." I think it's supposed to be a mock up of the old French Dressing from the 50's.

Try this link for more conventional recipes. I've used salad dressing recipes from this site with good results. I've tried a version of blue cheese dressing. I refuse to buy the bottled stuff. So, occasionally I make it but it's to high calorie to serve every day.

Red wine vinegar, olive oil, Dijon mustard, 1 clove fresh garlic, pressed, some chopped shallots, salt & pepper...all whisked together. Sometimes I add dried dill weed; nice with cucumbers.

Thanks RR...
Making a different salad dressing is important in enjoying salads..
Especially this time of the year when everything is fresh from our garden............
