Looking for a place to land

Hello everyone. My name is Dave. I'm 59 years old, and have been married for 31 years.

To be quite honest, my life has been pretty weird lately. After 33 years at the same company, they moved their entire operation across the country.

This wasn't an option for me, so instead of retiring from this company, I find myself 3 weeks into a new job, low man on the totem pole, surrounded by kids.

I don't know anyone, and I spend my days pretty much keeping to myself.

I was hoping this forum will provide me with a place to spend time discussing things I can relate to.

Thanks.

Welcome Dave!!

I hope you like it here, its not hard to fit in.

I can guarantee you won't have the "surrounded by kids" problem here! And we have no low people on our totem pole.

Looking forward to hearing more from and about you.

Hey @Dave03 ... and welcome! I don't blame you one iota for not wanting to be forced to move across the country like that... I'd have made the same decision, low gal (for me!) on the totem pole or not. Glad to have you here, and I hope you'll enjoy your time with us!

Hello, Dave. Many folks here are still working, so hopefully you can find some related support here, if you feel you need it. If nothing else, you have landed in a place where you can make some good friends and have a fun place to hang out

I don't know if we discuss things you can relate to or not, but pull up a chair and hang around for a while. Welcome Dave.

Hello @Dave03. I've heard stories like yours before. You must have a great resume to be hired at your age at a good company. I'm sure those kids make you feel old. When I am in a group of people in my own family who are in their 40's and 50's. I can't keep up with their conversations.

In my opinion, you are young at 59 .... only a couple years older than my kids. You will find many people to talk with here. I'm anxious to read your posts.

That's got to be tough. Starting a new job is always hard. But after that many years it's got to be really difficult.

Yes the age demographic can change. Someone made a crack about my age at work last Saturday. I only work part time but I'm now officially over that jerk.

Hi, you've come to the right place.....

Thanks for all the greetings.

I guess I should probably say a bit more about myself, just so you folks can get an idea as to whether or not to avoid me. Haha.

As far as my posting habits, I get on the computer maybe once a week or so. I have a sense of humor, and can laugh at myself, so don't be afraid to take jabs. My feelings don't hurt easily.

I enjoy a lot of music. Big Band, country (older stuff), Motown, some bluegrass, a handful of classical, a bit of heavy metal, etc.

Probably 80% of my collection, though, is classic rock. It's what I cut my teeth on.

So, of course, like everyone else thinks, what you grew up on is the best genre.

I have my views on all the hot button topics. Politics, religion, abortion, etc. But, I keep them to myself. It's been my experience that once a person's mind is set, you're not gonna change it.

I'm a lifelong Baltimore Orioles fan, but I couldn't care less about the Ravens. In fact, as much as I enjoy football, I don't even have a favorite team. I also follow NASCAR.

I'm a fairly solitary person, and my wife pointed out to me (I never realized it), that my hobbies reflect that. I build models, and enjoy doing word and sudoku puzzles. Love my Sunday crossword. All single person activities.

On a side note, I always do my puzzles in red ink. The ink is because, hey, sometimes the puzzle has to win. Why red? I don't know. Just a weird idiosyncrasy, I suppose.

Let's see, what else... I'm left handed, about 5'10". White hair.

Ok, I guess that's about it for now. I'm tired of typing.
