Lottery Win, what would you spend it on....

The main thing I need at this age is time and it can't be bought.

A live-in cook and housekeeper would be nice along with a house large enough to accommodate us all.

Maybe sampling some expensive grades of chocolate to see if anything is better than Hershey Dark. All in the name of science, of course:LOL:.
Oh please believe me there's a whole bunch of chocolate out in the world better than Hershey's dark.. if you want to test some send me your address and I'll willingly send you a selection for free. :giggle:

Would definitely watch wishing for "ocean-front" property. IOW, hurricanes and tropical storms. We went thru both when we lived in Florida, but, thank God, we lived some 15 miles inland.

i'm nott a big lottery player, but when the jackpot gets BIG... like 8-9 digits, i'll buy a few (very few) tickets. a owrk someone usually starts a pool where we throw in a few buck (like $5) a drawing... and play till the money's gone.

often day dream about what a win would mean. i think the very first thing i would do would be have a profession advise me on how much i could give my sister & brother before they or i would have tax issues. like a nice big chunk to pay off or by a new vehicle, pay off any mortgage/bills.

would have a cute little house built... with KITCHEN as center of attention. would hire "people" to do all the dirty-work and pay them well.

There's plenty places where you can buy ocean front where they don't suffer from Hurricanes and tropical storms
Yes, but it’s still damp, the dampness effects baking, (not that I bake). When we lived at
Camp Pendleton we lived with in walking distance to the beach. I did cook then 🤦🏻‍♀️ and all the recipes had to be adjusted, the storms were more intense, etc. Also think of all the sand tracked into the house. Ugh.

I like the story of a mailman, who wins millions, but says he is going to keep working. That lasts for about three weeks, and he quits. I'm surprised at how many of those big money winners wind up in bankruptcy. You wonder how they could blow through that much money, but they do. I'm trying to think what i would do with a huge chunk of money, and I don't have any real need for it. Not that I'm wealthy, or anything, but at this stage of my life, I'm content. I never thought I'd ever say that.

I have a house in Spain within walking distance or a short drive of the beach ( mediterranean sea). Only once has a storm had any effect on it ( tornado) but they are rare..... and I can't say I've ever noticed any difference in baking.. however the houses which are right on the beach suffer from salt corrosion... fortunately ours is far enough away not to suffer from that..

First, I would disappear some where. It's a well known fact when you win money, your photo is posted in the paper & media & then all the rip-off artists, crazies & con artists wouldn't leave you alone. Then there are the long lost relatives that always hated you but suddenly they are your best friend. Very often very poor, desperate people win these huge amounts of money. They either blow it very quickly or are dead within 2 years from excessive living. There is one case, locally, of a couple winning $50 million (CND) & spending it wisely over a period of several years. They are from the First Nations & I tip my hat to them for their wise living. However, they are the exception to the rule. I don't gamble but I think that when you win big money you just exchange one set of problems with another & don't tell me that the rich don't have problems.
I'm not so sure you would be able to stay hidden for long, unless you went into the Federal Witness Protection Program. 😊

My sentiment to a T.

My joy is creating ,designing, studying and writing, Winning a huge amount of money, I'd have to spend my days figuring out what to do with it, instead of enjoying.
Wouldn't mind having an old Classic Chevy pick-up truck and a slightly larger closet, but other than that, money would be a hex!

Well, alrighty then-HEX ME! HEX ME! But leave Gaer alone. 🥰 There you go, that should do it. When I get hexed I will buy you the truck of your choice and a slightly larger closet.

It depends on how big the prize was. If it were huge a home on Lake Tahoe, one in Carmel, a condo up in San Francisco and then a large Victorian here in San Jose that would be a good B&B my wife and I could run as an art glass B&B.

For less than houses, I'd get a nice mobile home my wife and I could travel in.

Smaller than that maybe a Tesla.

Smaller than that lodging and all access passes for SXSW 2022.

I generally pinch pennies out of habit more than necessity so I would start with something extravagant like an overpriced automobile and work my way up. I live alone currently so I will need some help spending the rest. I could be some young thing's sugar-daddy. Now there's an idea!

Chet you're exactly the type of person that Camelot is targeting and trying to teach how to spend ..see my OP :D

Like @Packerjohn, the first thing I'd do is rent or lease a home in a gated, guarded community. In California, winners names are published and when big prizes are awarded the hordes show up.

If you're talking about $50 million or more:

I'd likely want a house nearer the beach, and would also buy one for each of my children so they could be nearby at least part of the time (even if they chose to mostly live where they are now).

Would love to go back to the Canary Islands for a long stay (post Covid). Then swing by to visit @hollydolly in her Spanish retreat. :p
Yes to a housekeeper, but once a week would suffice.
I'd bump up my charitable giving to organizations and to individuals I've known for a long time.

I would not lavish millions on my children because I think it would be their undoing long-term, but would pay off their mortgages to relieve them of that pressure.

Truth is, while not wealthy, DH & I are comfortable with our financial situation. We are blessed. We worked hard for many years, spent wisely, and aren't wanting for anything.

Remember PJ...this first spend is for you alone ( and spouse if applicable)... and in the UK I don't know about the USA you can absolutely choose to be anonymous, and most winners do
Well, I never knew that. I seem to remember photos of the winner & the presenter showing this huge cheque for millions of dollars. The cheque must of been 4 to 6 feet across. It was all rather silly but I think it was to make more people gamble. You know what the gamblers like to say: "Well, somebody's gonna win", even though their chance was maybe 1 in 30 million. I could never understand why they published such photos because it stirs up the crazies & con artists out there unless it was totally to promote the lotto company. I am saying this from a Canadian perspective. In your country the laws might be totally different.
