Sometimes I make onion dip using greek yogurt instead of sour cream, comes out great! I use Dannon (Fage or Oikos) Plain Greek yogurt, 0% fat, and the only ingredient is cultured grade A non-fat milk.

I use three 5.3oz. containers of yogurt, and mixed with a packet of dry onion soup mix (I use Lipton). Can be a dip for veggies or chips, add some olive oil and it can be a salad dressing.

I eat Bulgarian yogurt which is low in fat and low in sugar. I never thought of using yogurt instead of sour cream. Will have to give it a try. Thanks for the hint.

I never heard of Bulgarian yogurt, do they sell it in regular supermarkets? The greek has no fat or sugar at all, but I do add raw honey when I want to sweeten it when eating it plain. I mix it with organic natural apple butter (Knudsen's) that has no sugar, etc. sometimes, healthy snack.

I love the Greek style yogurt they offer these days. Making dip from that with onion mix sounds like a smashing idea, I have to try that soon, thanks!

One of my favorite snacks is chips with onion dip. The alternative to sour cream, using yogurt, is a wonderful idea. It seems so easy, yet it isn't something I have ever heard used. The thought of having my favorite snack, in a healthier form, appeals to me. I am health conscious, yet hesitant to give up what I love most. Thank you for posting. I will certainly try it, and encourage friends to do the same.

We've made this quite a few times and usually eat it with Lays or Ruffles fat reduced chips. When made with Fage Greek Yogurt it was really thick, not good at all for us. With Dannon Oikos, it was a little bit better in thickness. Our favorite Greek yogurt to use is plain Chobani. It isn't dry and thick, but makes the dip nice and welcoming to the chips. We will be using this brand only in the future, have some now in the fridge. :coolthumb:
