The Shetland Islands (the most northerly of the Scottish islands) with their deep water harbours, are increasingly playing host to large cruise ships. Many of these ships carry more passengers than the population of the capital, Lerwick. It amuses the locals when passengers ask about visiting Edinburgh - Lerwick is closer to Norway than Edinburgh.
