M*a*s*h

Hey, I recently became hooked on watching those old episodes of M*A*S*H. (I have the movie with Donald Sutherland playing Hawkeye).

Do any of you watch it? Who are your favorite characters?

Hawkeye is the biggest personality, and although I admire his witty character and his skill as a life-saving surgeon, I think he overdoes it with the continual wisecracks.

In this respect, I think I prefer B.J.'s more serious vein. HotLips is either hot or cold, but Klinger (formerly Radar) and Col. Potter round out the cast nicely.

However, I really don't like the way that Hawkeye and BJ are always ridiculing Winchester...I don't think he deserves it.

Sure, he speaks like he's intellectually superior, but that's his upper-class Bostonian upbringing...nothing wrong with that! Besides, he's a Major and the other 2 surgeons are only Captains...Winchester must have something on the ball

Also, look at Col. Potter's "cowboy" affectation!

I like Hawkeye and don't think he overdoes it. That's his style and trying to overcome an awful situation. I love MASH, too. Klinger is really funny. I really like sweet Radar! He's so cute!

It's being shown nightly on TV here in the UK. Although Radar may be cute, apparently Gary Burghof who played him, was far from a nice guy.
I like Klinger.

I watch it. I purchased the full series on dvd so I could watch it when I want to and the correct order. I like Hawkeye. He gives them the humor they need at a time and place like that.

Frank Burns (Larry Linville) used to crack me up...just loved his character, and he and Hot Lips Houlihan we're so corny funny!.

Hal, What do you mean " Klinger (formerly Radar ..." ?? Klinger and Radar were two separate characters.

I preferred the episodes costarring Wayne Rogers as Trapper John and MacLean Stevenson as Henry Blake. My favorite character was not a regular but a guest - the self abusing Colonel Flagg of the CIA, CID etc. He was just hilarious. :love_heart: But I do think the relationship between Frank and Hotlips was pretty funny for the years they appeared together on the show.

Oh, it's bearing !

I met Hot Lips Hulihan at a site one day (Played by Loretta Swit)

We exchanged "His". She was really pretty. Wonder if she's still alive, along with other cast members?

I have seen Mash in the TV listings, but not watched it. We have been watching "Hogans Heroes, The Twilight Zone, Paladin, and Mr Lucky.

Back in the 1980s we were staying in a hotel in San Jose, Costa Rica. We went into the bar and the TV was running "Hogans Heroes" with the dialog in Spanish. That was different.

The reason I never watch "Hogan's Heroes" is because Sgt. Shultz is portrayed as a buffoon.

No Nazi in a prison camp ever resembled anyone as ridiculous as Shultz! They were all physically fit, sharp, obedient, and efficient!

Col. Clink looked the part, however.

I love MASH! Back in the 70s when we were stationed in Germany, absolutely everything stopped when MASH came on AFN because everyone was glued to the TV. I particularly enjoyed their procurement problems (order a case of thermometers and get a case of umbrellas) because we had the same problems in the office where I worked. I think Klinger is my favorite character, but I really liked them all. I still watch it when I find it.

It was a comedy after all and I think Shultz added to the funniness of the show.

Same with the Andy Griffith show. That Deputy Fife character played by Don Knotts should be retired, and someone not so stupid and fragile-looking should replace him. He should trade characters with Jim Nabors, who at least looks like a man.
