Does it irritate you when you get a load of junk or flyers in your magazine .. or do you enjoy them ?

I subscribe to just 2 monthly magazines.. and one of them is notorious for the amount of junk that has to be removed before I can read the magazine...

this is what I got yesterday ...

What I wanna know is how a magazine can travel all the way through the mail or be shipped to a store with loose cards inserted only to have those cards fall out the instant that you open the publication. I suspect that some mysterious undiscovered principle of physics is involved, or could it be...aliens?! 👽🙀

In this instance, the magazine is wrapped in polythene , but as soon as I unwrap it, everything falls out

Holly,I noticed you have copy of'The Week' I subscribe to that magazine too
Sometimes I'll use the card insert as a book marker if I can't find the real one
I find ripping out card inserts is exercise for my arms LOL!
it;s not a copy of the week altho' I do enjoy that magazine, it;s a flyer for it.....

If I subscribed to a magazine, I don't mind those leaflets that come with it. What does irritate me is those newspapers I didn't subscribe to being tossed in my driveway, so I have to pick them up & throw them away.
I've contacted the publishers & told them to stop delivering them but it doesn't help. I've started kicking them out into the street. Maybe they'll get the message if enough people complain.

Besides magazines, I get catalogs.. I did order from some of them, once. I just use to toss them in the trash. By then I happened to notice the enclosed order form. It was all type out with my Name, address, and phone number. I got freaked out when I noticed this box. If I checked it, they would charge my credit card that was "on file." Somebody could get the catalog out of my mailbox, buy a bunch of things, send them to themselves, and check the box, so I get charged for it? Now, I shred everything I get in the mail.

fortunately we have letter boxes which are in our front doors, so not accessible to anyone outside of our home

Yeah, I shred almost everything; I heard on the news about a woman who got an unwanted but all filled out with her info. application in the mail for life ins. or something, just tossed it in the trash, a dumpster diver pulled it out, kept it, waited, the woman accidentally--it just got past her--threw out something with her Soc. Sec. # on it, the same dumpster diver grabbed that & was then able to take out credit cards, etc. So a paper shredder's a worthy investment.

No magazine subscriptions here.

I have gone paperless with most of my legitimate mail and don't seem to get much junk mail since I made the switch. I'm not sure if there is a connection where my legitimate business may have been sharing mailing lists.

I also seem to get most of my mail on Wednesday each week. I've wondered if the postman is trying to save a few steps by holding my mail.

I used to deliver the free newspapers and first I had to put the inserts into every single copy!
I feel sorry for the postman who has to deliver all our 'junk' mail, knowing it will all go straight into the bin.
I do too Rosemarie... but having the junk mail already in my magazine.. then more junk mail from the postman can sometimes amount to a huge amount of tree.....

Wow, Holly.... That's equivalent to an entire additional magazine, but on subjects you hadn't asked for! :oops::rolleyes::LOL:

@hollydolly , I know it's different here, but in my state, it's the major newspapers that send out flyers, junk postcard offers, coupon "books" and all that stuff- especially from grocery stores.

Here in little Connecticut, I called the newspaper, "The Hartford Courant" and asked for it all to be stopped. It did after a few weeks. There are a few things that squeak by, but minimal.

I love the mags but the flyers are a PITA.. and almost all of them are begging for money for some cause or other.

Yes, I used to love getting a few magazines, to hold in hand, and browse through,
but I did become sick of getting reams of ads selling items I had no interest in.
When they got to one insert every page turn, I'd had enough of the entire pile of garbage, and eventually discontinued all of them.

I just remembered, that following all of that type of junk ads in the mail, that came with the magazines;
After I'd decided to discontinue, I received years of letters, informing me that I must have let my subscription lapse by mistake, and I must reorder and send payment, now!

Gosh, it was more years, till that type of junkmail stopped coming.

Whew! :oops::rolleyes:

They also sent extremely frequent letters, that my subscription was due for renewal or else would be cancelled soon and I'd miss issues,
when it was literally more than a year away from expiring. :oops::rolleyes:

They were definitely my most frequent mail correspondent and penpal! :D

But they wore out our relationship, became too high maintenance, and I needed to let it go.
:ROFLMAO:

We get a lot of junk mail, one is called Value Pack and has a ton of coupons. All from business around wanting to seal driveways ,put in new windows, air conditioning etc. I throw them away. The only ones I look forward to are seed catalogs that come around this time of year but these days they are few and far between.
Wouldn't mind an invite to the casinos in Atlantic City with free slot play, food and rooms like we use to get. I guess that's a thing of the past since Covid struck.
