Major storm coming our way

All the weather forecasts are saying that we, and much of the Eastern half of the US will have a major snow and ice storm starting this Saturday evening, and continuing into early Monday. They are saying that this may be the worst weather in the past 12+ years...with the temperatures holding below freezing for all of next week.

We got some extra groceries yesterday, and I ran my generator for a few minutes this morning...in case we lose power, if the ice buildup damages the power lines.

If you are in the path of this storm, BE AWARE.

I've been watching the long range forecasts, and we've known it was coming for about a week. I'm in south west Virginia. We had snow flurries this afternoon, the first ones of the winter, and while driving today, I saw that the roads were striped with that chemical that melts ice. My power company sent out a memo to get ready. I've got my wood box filled up with enough to get me through a crisis, and more wood in the woodshed.

We're as ready as we'll ever be. Only worry is how much ice. 0.25" to 0.75" is the forecast. The big worry would be the transmission lines, but they are north of here, and less ice is forecast. Maybe some intermittent outages in the local area. Hopefully nothing of the lengthy variety.

Maybe it is normal and I never really noticed, but a lot of HVAC companies seem to be traveling the roads and streets. I have no need to travel until next Friday, so here's hoping.

That's a lot of trees to have to cover, and mature ones are pretty large.

Does anyone know if this storm is moving west-to-east, or east-to-west?
I'd end up hurting myself trying to cover them and would probably do them more harm than good.

It's okay, I'll start some fires under them. I already melted my fence earlier this year, so I have experience.

It's good for the soul
