Making a clay ashtray in school

I made one and gave it to my dad. Even though he never smoked, he kept it on his dresser. At the end of the day, he'd put his loose change, wristwatch and keys in it. I don't know where the ashtray is now, but it did its job well all those years.

Did you make one too?
 

I remember making an ashtray, and I still have the imprint of my hand. My mother saved it, and somehow it got into my sister's collection of memorabilia, probably because she is into archives and memorabilia when it comes to family.

But talk about making ashtrays for your parents. They needed them of course, but why do things to encourage it? "Here you go Mom and Dad. Smoke 'em up. I made it extra large so you don't have to empty it as often."
