Man arrested after shooting at children playing hide-and-seek on his property; 14-year-old girl hurt

So he saw “shadows,” then people running, and found that sufficient reason to open fire with a lethal weapon? Paranoia, hate speech, and extremist intolerant political views run deep in the minds of people such as this, far too many of which possess firearms…
 

Once again a chance to play judge/ jury with only basic information........ Until people decide there are 2 sides to every story this continues......without any reasonable doubt....Media plays their game.......

imagine as an older or any person alone in rural area......... rural Louisiana
A person looking out of their home and their property ........and see shadowing figures running around on property around his home.....NO one should be there .........

did article state if he had been broken into before or area around had issues with break ins or robbery ? ..........NOPE

if only saw shadows the RACE of person hit is irrelevant........ can any person say .....he knew and was his political beliefs? ... Come ON

was it stupid to shoot ........without knowing what you are shooting at ..... Absolutely


Now the other parts of story did these kids respect they are on other peoples property? ...... that someone does not know who you are or what you are doing running in the dark around this persons home? ...... are they aware of this persons age/ or if they may be concerned about crime or had things stolen? Could this person have guns ( rural Louisiana good guess is yes)

If this was a neighbor? Is it normal to run around a persons home / property at night..... in city police might be called in rural settings many may arm themselves and try to scare off ......... Could he have shot in air and bullets tend to follow gravity......

IF not familiar with place why were they there? ...... could they have asked " can we play hide and seek on your property?'

Imagine kids playing on your property running in dark fall and injure themselves once again all the homeowners fault? NOPE

Only those obsessed with guns and that someone is out to get them would shoot at shadows. Paranoia runs deep in these so-called responsible gun owners. Recently, the grandson of an 85 year old man who shot a kid who rang his doorbell by mistake, said the geezer was brainwashed by FOX's incessant crime coverage.
 
Once again, people will want to outlaw guns. Guns don't kill people; people kill people!

People are the problem, so let's not allow people to buy, carry, or own guns. Manufacturers can still manufacture and sell guns. Just stop people from having access to them!

Mental illness is definitely on the rise. The crazies are being heard. Unfortunately, they are using guns in the US and knives here in Canada. I think this is what our society is trying to accomplish; an all inclusive society." They have the right and they have the desire to make changes by getting rid of what bothers them. I'm not sure I like those "changes."

That sort of brings me around to very current news about a former US President that has been a very, very naughty man in the past. I'm sure someone will post something about him. Me? I got no comment on this!

Dream the impossible dream! How do you disarm a whole nation? At least the many who are paranoid enough to feel they absolutely have to have self-defense since everyone (including the STATE) is out to get them? Or maybe not so paranoid, since their mentally ill neighbour, or the neighbour with anger control problems, possesses a whole arsenal of weapons.

You are right of course. But we don't get to decide the man's fate. A judge and maybe jury will do that, if a prosecutor finds enough evidence to charge him.

We often discuss things and form opinions with a less complete picture of a story. I'm not sure that is always bad, we just need to recognize that's what we are doing. Without it there would be a lot less to discuss here.

On the face of it this looks pretty bad for the man doing the shooting, if something comes up to better explain what he did I am sure we'll talk about that when it happens.

I don't know what it is that is bothering you about an all inclusive society, @Packerjohn? What does that have to do with violence? Most of the recent violence in Canada has been either gang related or in connection with racial violence. Haters who didn't like Jews, Muslims or Asians! Don't you think the more inclusive we get, the better?

I am just done with the stereo type assumptions and we should look at facts not sweep all items together......

The now often practiced item is for a prosecutor throwing a charge he could not prove and especially with elderly ........hope they will plea bargain.
Considering both state and federal courts in the U.S., plea bargains account for over 95% of all criminal case resolutions. That percentage practically guarantees there are many innocent people pleading guilty, to avoid a trial and or expense of defending themselves.

The public fuels this by jumping to conclusions on media stories ....... All I ask is when reading articles ask your self what details are they missing ? is this framed to a agenda ? try to see there is much more we never hear.

Yep, that is unethical, a prosecutor should both be convinced of actual guilt and have a reasonable belief he can prove it before bringing charges.

However you are right, all too often that doesn't happen. I think the problem is prosecutors are too often judged on wins, including plea bargains, and not on fairness or actual justice. Not sure how to change that, but it could use changing...

You are probably right, and while I do try and ask that what's missing question I suppose all too often I get sucked into the frenzy. People like simple stories with black and white answers, these often don't exist, but the press can do a good job of making it appear that way.

And its not so much the press to blame, they just report what they think we want to hear. Look at some of the recent revelations about Fox News, and I am sure they are not the only guilty media outlet, just the one with the most recent release of embarrassing information. Remember Dan Rather faking the exploding pickup truck? I would never listen to him after that, but enough people did that he kept his job...

The "All Inclusive Society" is a wonderful idea. Actually, it is a nice dream. The same as every Christmas we hear the same old, "Peace on Earth and Good Will to All Men." The Hippies tried it very much in the 1960s with the pot smoking and tuning out our society. Well, you don't have to looks very far to find out that there is absolutely no "peace on earth" and "Good Will" is often pretty hard to find.

Just check the news everyday and you will find that there are bombings, murders and violence all over the place. The more people we have on this planet and the more we try to force them to be together, the more there will be trouble. I don't know what the solution is and I believe we are still very far from this "all inclusive" and "lovely-dovey" society.

Put your Russians and Ukrainians together and you got trouble!
Put your Moslems and Hindus together and you got trouble!
Put your Jew and Moslem together and you got trouble.
