Man Feeds 25 Raccoons On His Porch

Wow. I love feeding the wildlife but never get that close to them. 🤗
I feed 4 Raccoons every night. Only one takes food out of my hand, but I don't hand feed him anymore because he sort of "snaps" it quickly. One of them puts his front paws on my leg. The other 2 let me stand next to them while they eat, but they won't touch me & I won't push it.

I feed skunks but don't get very close, just watch from a distance. Wildlife is WILD and I respect that. Raccoons can get aggressive but I've never seen one become mean. It was a cute video anyway. 🤗

How delightful.

Hubby and I were in California in 1985 and we stayed in a tent cabin in a forest somewhere near Big Sur, I think. There were signs saying please don't feed the racoons, so I didn't, but I would dearly have loved to see some.

I was a good girl and didn't feed or get close to any cute little furry creatures because of rabies or plague but it nearly killed me to refrain.

Is this the real reason they ask you not to feed the wild animals?

I always chuckle at the "Warnings" of the dangers of wild animals. Some can be dangerous. Maybe it boils down to life's experiences.
In my 68 years, the only species that has hurt me (or tried to hurt me) is humans.

They say humans are the most dangerous animal of all, and I believe it.

Last night, only half the food I left out for the raccoons was gone & the water I leave for them was clean. I know that means the raccoons didn't show up because they like to wash their paws in it, which leaves the water dirty.
When I shined my flashlight, the cutest baby Opossum was looking at me. That's convenient because they have the same diet as raccoons.
He was the size of a large rat. 😊

Not a fan of feeding wild life. What happens when rabies enters that crowd? It will be really sad that's what. It's not even that they like the guy. Racoons are opportunists, whatever is available. Not doing them any favors by encouraging them to multiply either. Oh well. 🙄

I have a friend who lives not far from me who has a deck that faces a wooded ravine. Raccoons made their home under her deck and had been there for quite some time before she became aware of them being there. Anyway, they did a great amount of damage and she's spending hundreds of dollars to be rid of them and also to repair the damage that they've caused to her home.

It's not a great idea to feed any wild life. First, by putting food out, you have no idea what the hell you're attracting. I had a neighbor, who used to "feed the deer". Then we got bears, and then mice in our homes . And your supposed "kindness" can be killing them. In the winter, the stomachs of deer change to enable them to eat coarser twigs, and bark. My neighbor was leaving out food the deer ate up, but could no longer digest, and causing their death. When she moved away, we stopped having bears. mice or dead deer. I know they are cute animals, and your heart goes out, but they have been living millions of years without handouts.
The Poconos used to be summer resort area, and people would stay the summer, and feed the wildlife. Then in September. they'd go home. And the bears would start breaking into their homes, looking for food. Thankfully, that era has passed.
