Man seen placing rice cookers around NYC

All 3 were empty, a hoax.

The man was found unconscious around 2 a.m. ET at an address in the Bronx and is hospitalized, the source said. He was taken into custody on a previous bench warrant unrelated to Friday's incident and has not been charged in connection with the rice cookers, the source said.

Of course, subway trains were stopped, traffic snarled. What kind of kick can anyone get out of this?

What in tarnation is a rice cooker? A pot for cooking rice? Why would that be a crime? Or is it something else? Can somebody explain?

LOL!!! They look like pressure cookers that can easily be used as bombs - like the two guys used to kill 5 & maim a bunch of others during the Boston Marathon. And 16 people lost limbs.

Is this similar to the person placing old TV sets on neighborhood front porches in Virginia? The TV guy dressed up with a TV over his head, rice cooker guy could have worn a cooker as a hat. No imagination.

Some people get a kick out of creating chaos & panic. Probably the same type of people who tamper with items on the shelf or pyromaniacs. Remember the Tylenol situation from 1982? 7 killed, still unsolved. I'll bet the guy who did it never missed a news broadcast about it; he must have really enjoyed it.

The missus once gave me a rice cooker for Christmas, mostly cause we both knew I really needed one. I like rice but I've never had much luck with cooking it. Rice Cooker saved the day for me..
You put in how many cups of rice you want, then fill with water up to that number of cups water line, put on the lid, turn it on, and forget it. Come back later when the little light on the cooker says it's done and your rice is ready for dinner.. (y)
 
They need to start showing examples, even though it was a hoax, lock him up for a few years... This all has to change, and they need to find a way to make it change... The world is such a scary place now... Scares me because of my Grandson, what kinda life is he going to have... I know there have been different scares in all of our lives, but today's world is so violent!

Unfortunately, it will never happen. The only charge (if any) would be "Littering," or maybe "Criminal Mischief." He won't spend any time in jail.
 
When I saw the thread title I thought, aww, some Good Samaritan's novel idea to feed the homeless. Then I thought, but he'd have to deliver big bags of rice and kegs of water and how would that work...yes, that really crossed my mind first 🤪

This guy has a previous record and an outstanding bench warrant for failing to comply with some drug conditions... people said he picks up stuff along sidewalks. He said he picked up the 3 cookers outside a restaurant.
