I think the article said it's an issue with his HOA. I doubt they'll appreciate it if his fence attracts tourists. What makes you think that?

I was just speculating. We'll see what happens (if it's newsworthy). The city made him store his boat behind a 6 foot fence or screen based on a municipal code. I haven't seen any mention of an HOA.
There don't seem to be clear grounds on which the city might object to this creative fence.
The HOA gave him the option of covering it up or building a fence. The boat owner opted to build a fence. The HOA didnāt specify it couldnāt be painted. If the fence attracts tourists, thatās not the home owners fault.I think the article said it's an issue with his HOA. I doubt they'll appreciate it if his fence attracts tourists.
Where have you seen that there's an HOA involved? The HOA gave him the option of covering it up or building a fence. The boat owner opted to build a fence. The HOA didnāt specify it couldnāt be painted. If the fence attracts tourists, thatās not the home owners fault.
Actually, it would be his fault. He commissioned the painting. The HOA gave him the option of covering it up or building a fence. The boat owner opted to build a fence. The HOA didnāt specify it couldnāt be painted. If the fence attracts tourists, thatās not the home owners fault.
Me...I thought that's what I read (as I skimmed the article).Where have you seen that there's an HOA involved?
The first post and other articles Iāve seen written about itWhere have you seen that there's an HOA involved?
What if someone has a spectacular display of Christmas lights or a way above average garden of flowers that draws attention to others. Should they be changed if it slows traffic down?Actually, it would be his fault. He commissioned the painting.
I don't know if it'll cause problems for him or not, but it wouldn't surprise me if it does...unless the novelty wears off quickly.
When the town of Seaside, California ordered homeowner Etienne Constable to build a fence to conceal the boat in his driveway, he erected the fence all right. And then he hired his neighbor, artist Hanif Panni, to paint a mural on the fenceārealistically depicting the boat itself. Call it passive-aggressive, call it malicious compliance, but in any event, call it hilarious. The city made him store his boat behind a 6 foot fence or screen based on a municipal code. I haven't seen any mention of an HOA.

The homeowner chose to live in an area with a HOA and he agreed to follow the rules when we bought there. If he feels the rules are unfair, he can go to the council to have it changed and the whole association can vote on it. Heās part of a community. The Home ownership association asked them to cover the boat or build a fence. Why?
Itās not like itās an eye sore for others. None of this would even be discussed if people minded their own business. The boat wasnāt hurting anyone. Maybe someone on the HOA was green with envy. This guy merely rubbed his face in it which he/ she/ they deserved.
But he DiD follow the rules. He built a fence. The homeowner chose to live in an area with a HOA and he agreed to follow the rules when we bought there. If he feels the rules are unfair, he can go to the council to have it changed and the whole association can vote on it. Heās part of a community.
Just because he has a nice boat, that doesnāt mean everyone does. If thereās a rule, it has to apply to everyone.
You wanted to know why he was asked to build a fence and I gave you a possible explanation. The Home ownership association asked them to cover the boat or build a fence. Why?
I bet if the rules of that HOA were reviewed, thereāll be a clause that covers the painting. Colours have to be approved. But he DiD follow the rules. He built a fence.
Right. Fair enough. I guess it was cheeky and probably annoying to other neighbours. It would be a-shame if he had to paint over the beautiful mural. I think itās funny as ever but , then again, I donāt live there. You wanted to know why he was asked to build a fence and I gave you a possible explanation.

Like I say, he chose to live there.
So there is no HOA. We were both wrong. The homeowner chose to live in an area with a HOA and he agreed to follow the rules when we bought there. If he feels the rules are unfair, he can go to the council to have it changed and the whole association can vote on it. Heās part of a community.

He seems to be the type of person, who would haveHe could turn the gates around so that he gets to view the painting from in his yard.
And he'll be required to paint over it.
I wrote that comment when I thought the fence was an HOA rule, in which case, there'd also be a rule about the color you can paint fences. Lawyers hate getting involved in HOA issues.OH YEAH??? If that happened he wouldn't even have to hire a lawyer, they would be knocking on his front door.
