The state of Washington doesn’t have the death penalty as of 2023. I would think they would like to rewrite their law to allow the death penalty for anyone that knowingly and is not insane that kills children under the age of 18.

I have a friend that is a state trooper here in Pennsylvania and we were discussing this case. He said that “Even if he is mentally incompetent here in PA, but knows right from wrong, he will be considered competent to stand trial.” How Washington does it, he didn’t know.
 
There was a similar case in 2001 when I lived in Dallas that was widely publicized. An accountant who so-called "loved" his 2 little girls, shot them both to death while his wife was talking with him on the phone, then went straight to a tattoo parlor down the street to have their names tattooed on himself. I don't recall any other news story of one so cold, until this new event. Justice needs to be carried out promptly, but it isn't. John Battaglia got to live 17 years on death row before finally being executed in 2018.

Was that an act of revenge against his wife? Anyone that kills a child is no longer needed here on earth. I am a God-fearing man, but the only justice in these types of cases is as the Bible states in Leviticus 24:20. I am not a true believer in the Old Testament, but the book of Leviticus (Book of Laws) is a good way to lead one’s life.

“Fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth". This means that the perpetrator of the harm must endure the exact same injury they inflicted on their victim.

Yes, the parents were in a bitter custody battle at the time it happened. The wife remarried later. I know she could not replace the children she lost - but sadly, she was past child bearing age by the time she remarried.

That’s what makes this an even sadder situation. Like I said earlier, we have no use for anyone that intentionally kills a child.

Same goes for these people that shake their babies to death by snapping their neck. That’s very upsetting.

Just for the sake of discussion, which types of "certain punishment" do you believe the 8th Amendment prohibits? Excluding the penalties of death and life without parole as applied to offenders under 18 years of age -- that does not apply in Decker's case, assuming he were to be tried for the murder of his children and found guilty.

I'm thinking wet rawhide tight around his neck and some desert sunshine. Oh yeah, maybe tied to a cactus to keep him mostly immobile.
I have others in mind, (involving flame), but, this one will do for a start.

What initially comes to mind is generally known as Deliberate indifference under the 8th Amendment. Torture, starvation, denying needed medical attention, you get it. Some other events might be grounds for legal redress, but would not fall under the 8th.
