I do like the skirl of bagpipes but I like the sharp cadence of the accompanying drums just as much.

I find it stirring, especially when the "massed pipes" perform at a festival.

We saw the Grand Tattoo in Toronto one year and it was magnificent.

We had a place just off a pond
Trees draped over the edge of that pond
I always enjoyed that scene when coming home from work

This ol' guy would occasionally appear
And play the pipes
Seemed the music echoed off that pond

It was magnificent

Some dacades ago I saw a cartoon from Scotland. It showed a man who put a sheep over his shoulder and held the sheep by it's legs. There was written: "How the bagpipe was invented".

I read a article once (I'm pretty sure it was apocryphal, but you never know.....) about a British embassy, consulate or legation in some third-world hot spot of a hell-hole that was being stormed by angry locals.

Just as the group was about to tear down the gates and overpower the guards, a lone piper appeared and started marching across the lawn, piping away. Apparently, the angry mob fell silent in wonder. But a few moments later, the riot resumed and the mob broke through the gates and killed the piper.

The author of the article I was reading felt that the mob's action was totally warranted. Apparently, he wasn't a fan of bagpipe music.......

I bet after a few shots of this, it would seem like 100 pipers were playing in your head.

Same here; I loved how it was used at the end of the movie Amazing Grace.
