Married Romance Scammers on Dating Sites

Much has been publicized by Dr.Phil and others about foreign romance scammers who post handsome but fake photos and profiles on dating sites and scam lonely people out of their money. Less publicized are American married men who frequent singles dating sites pretending to be single. Their motive isn't money; it is sexual affairs and the thrill of deception. Some of these men have the money to have an expensive home with the wife and kids in one state and a bachelor apartment in another state; sometimes in upscale senior apartment complexes! With an independent phone, address and residence available to them, it is very difficult for their victims to learn the truth. Religion is not an obstacle to them and they sometime claim church membership.

Years ago there was a website where women and men could go and enter the names of liars and romance scammers they had encountered along with a brief description of their experience. Anyone could access the website free of charge and look up names. But I can no longer find it.

The majority of men on these sites are not there for any good purpose. Most are there for motives of opportunity to scam a woman out of money or get laid or have an affair. The ones that are genuinely looking for someone never seem to have any luck or aren't on those types of sites. Yes there are some success stories but for the most part I would recommend a woman either stay single or go about looking for someone in the real world. It's too easy to lie and con on the internet.

I haven't seen anyone on here that was on a dating site comment on this. I've been on several dating sites. Match, POF, one other. I've always been a 'dater' so I know what to look for.
I always get to know men online as much as possible. To the point to where I need to communicate with them enough to know if meeting up is worth it.
I ended up meeting with three different men over a period of about 5 years. None were married. All were polite. Most were attractive. One led to a long friendship.
Overall, I've had fun on the sites but I'm long gone now.
Just investigate a bit. Let others know where you will be meeting up w/your 'match' and use common sense. I'm glad I did it.

I started watching "Hey Beautiful" on Disney/Hulu. I only watched the first episode and a few minutes of Ep2. It's about a man who presented himself as handsome and was scamming three women, two of whom were married. One married lady sent him close to $500,000! Another sent about $35,000 if I remember correctly. The least attractive, dowdy one, also married got scammed out of only $1,000. I wondered if he dealt with her less because she wasn't attractive.

I wondered how these women could be so dense! One of them was informed by her friend that a photo he'd sent was fake because the size of the head didn't fit the body. He also managed to facetime these women, seemingly from a hospital bed. after getting money for a much needed "surgery". It was an elaborate scheme. And of course he always had a "legit" reason he couldn't show up in person. The women found out who he is and are closing in on him. More will be revealed on Ep 2. during which the first few minutes reveals he's actually gay.

I'm a man but my experience is about the same as yours. If you're patient and have common sense spammers show their hand fairly quickly so you just pull the plug. I was off and on dating sites for a number of years, sure there are some fruitcakes, but I never experienced what others claim, things like everyone is married or a scammer.

You left out American married women who frequent singles dating sites. And cheat. As a male who has used dating sites in the past I can assure everybody that there are married women on those sites.

These days I search for a partner the old fashioned way. I live my life, meet new people, and if one of those is a woman who attracts me I’ll see if she is interested.

I don't think it's stupidity that makes people trust. I think we want people to be good and do until/unless they harm me. Then DUN!

I wouldn't trust someone I had never met enough to send them my life savings! These women were desperate for attention, even the married ones and that's what he gave them.
Romance scammers are very cunning and charming. Women alone do want some attention but that doesn't necessarily make them desperate.

I was contacted at a dating site by a romance scammer and he almost had me thinking he sounded very good and sweet. What clued me in was his messages started sounding like a premade script. I wavered between almost believing him and thinking something doesn't sound right.

Finally I told a friend about the relationship I might be getting into. I had never heard of romance scammers before and she enlightened me. I did further research to check out the things he told me. He had a phoney newspaper article he sent me.

I wanted to see if the email of the newspaper could tell me anything. I called Cyprus and the man told me that the article was no good and he new nothing of what was supposedly printed. In other words it was fake.

The romance scammer had told me he was a Geologist of fire gems. Told me his house wasn't far from me. I reported him after finding he had the fake news article.

Are you blaming these women? I'm just curious because everyone is not the same and it's easy to get hooked by these scammers. Just because you cannot relate to these women doesn't mean they should have known better.

I must say that anyone can be fooled by these scammers because they are trying with the emotions of love. Unless you have walked in their shoes you can't understand. I don't mean any offense. Just adding my two cents.

I am not a poor person and at the same time I am not a stupid person. I'm not someone who wanted a conventional life. Husband kids, no thanks. But, I dated and those who are scammers start to Stand Out Big Time. I love it when a guy underestimates me and thinks I'm going to give him anything he's not owed.
I help my family and friends. I don't need to help men who try to con.

You left out the method of deception married women use to scam. In the case of married men who can afford a separate bachelor pad away from their main residence, it is very difficult for their victims to discern they are being scammed. Many married scammers can only afford their own private Post Offic Box.

Sounds exhausting, keeping up a facade.

Why don't they just have a site that simply has married people looking for outside relationships?

It would save time, and you'd know you're getting someone exactly like you are.
There is a site like that. It's described in the link in the original post above. But the thrill of deception is part of the attraction on singles dating sites.

This is a little off topic but I think it's related. I've been watching a lot of nature documentaries lately especially on birds. And I've learned that with most, not all, but most bird species it's the male that has all the fancy colorfull fealthers and such and in the mating game it is he turns himself inside out trying to impress the femaile bird by doing all kinds of fancy dancing and displaying and what not and bringing her gifts of bugs and worms and even building a fancy nest. And all the female does is sit there and watch and when the show is over she is the one that decides whether he gets the thumps up or the thumbs down.

And the thought occured to me about how remarkable similar that is to the human mating ritual.

Thank God I am happy being single, it's a jungle out there.
Not where I live. Are you in the south?

I am not agreeing with many of these posts. I dated well into my 70s and never once was I scammed. No one asked me for money or turned out to be married. I did my research on the people - well three guys - as I've said before. All were nice.

No one ever did any fancy dancing for me. Don.t even say it. :cautious:

This topic bothers me, obviously. This is my 3rd post here - hopefully my last. Fakes/Frauds expose themselves during internet correspondence. When/if I find someone on a site I do investigate them thoroughly. I don't take this likely but I don't want to believe the bs I'm seeing here.

So, again, if they lie most times I find out. IF they're married that's pretty easy to figure out. Grammar, intellect are what stands out to me. Again, I've met several guys on the net. I went out with three over the course of a few years. Had a nice time. Friends knew where I was at all times
That time is over for me now.I don't want to date an old person. I am an old person.
I just wanted to inject some personal knowledge of dating sites and I thank you.
Sorry, one last. Don't believe Dr. Phil. He along w/Dr. Oz are quacks now. Dr. Phil's new show is like Maury Poviches

Thank God I am happy being single, it's a jungle out there.
Jungles contain many good things. Food and water For example. Jungles provide places where the planet generates clean air. They help control climate change. Lots of good stuff in jungles. Just beware of the poisonous plants and the people eating animals. :D
