I listened to Martin Sheen being interviewed on a very long running BBC radio show called "Desert Island Discs", (if you've never heard of the show celebrities are asked to come up with ten choices of music tracks they would like to listen to, should they be shipwrecked alone on a desert island, and in the process of revealing them they are asked about their lives).
I'd missed the show when originally broadcast, and I admit I was hazy about Martin Sheen's career, (I remembered more about one of his sons Charlie in fact).
When listening to the show last night, my first reaction was a feeling he was a bit glib, and I didn't wish to like him. To start with I think I wasn't really listening, but as the show went on I must admit I was much more impressed with him, and liked what he had to say about his very high profile life.
One of the records he chose was a great Bob Dylan track we will all remember I'm sure, ("Knocking on heavens door"):
