Massive Cell Phone Outages across US

I just read a blurb that telephone companies want to get rid of land lines. It costs a lot to keep that wire, which goes to your home, working. They want to phase landlines out. It think it's outdated technology. Maybe, it's past its prime???
100+ year old technology definitely past it's prime. I would dump the landline in a heartbeat, but DW clings to it, for reasons that are beyond understanding. At least it's not on the old Verizon copper network, but on Race Communication's Fiber Optic system.

I was talking to a Rural couple within 10 miles of me and they have no Internet or Cell Service. Asked it they have a Repeater.
Offered order with Amazon to maybe help. Its tough. But they keep their landlines, so they are good still. My home has
landline, I would have to pick up a phone thought to use it. ..... (y) ..... Rurals have kept their Landlines. She offered up Colorado as
an example of total crap without it. They retired and left Colorado for better retirement lifestyle. I can assume they plan another
move in the near future far south. Seems sort of like Cal. and Il. and Penn. and most all of the New England stuff. They gone, TWTS !

There is a lot of digging going on in the ditches of the roadways now, if you pay attention to all the digging and attention along the right of ways its about other stuff right now but it makes sense the original phone service is in depredation.

My cellphone was unaffected by the outage, but it had been c-rap for making calls for a month anyway. No one could hear me on the other end. I replaced the microphone module and it still was no good for making calls.

Then, last week it fell off the table. I tested it and people on the other end could hear me again. Anyway, I mostly use my landline to make and receive calls here in the sticks.

Verizon just installed all new fiber optics in our town of Hershey. That may or may not mean anything. I spoke with the foreman on the job and he was telling me that the only reason they were replacing the lines was because the old copper lines were beginning to fail excessively. He thinks in the next 10 years, landlines may be history. He said there were certain cities in the Midwest where his company has already began to remove the old copper lines.

What I wonder is what about the folks who can’t afford to buy cellphones. Will they get a free cellphone? The illegals do, so why shouldn’t our true American friends also get a free phone?

I'm with your DW about landlines. Years ago, before routers, the power would go off with the cable TV, but the old landline still worked. Today, I use my landline to screen calls. The less people, who know my cellphone number, the better. Also, years ago, my health was fragile and lived alone in the sticks, so I got cordless phones for every room in the house. I guess they are my security blanket.

An interesting thing is that the military discovered another one of those spy balloons , this one over Colorado (if I remember right), and this is at the same time as AT&T has massive blackouts everywhere, and also some of our health companies were under a cyber attack. I don’t understand why we do not just shoot down those spy balloons instead of just letting them wander across the country doing whatever spying and damages that they do ?
