Matthew McConaughey Speaks on Uvalde

I am doing ok, @JonSR77 ; lots of grieving for the children though.
@PamfromTx I can't even imagine. I saw this morning that Robb Elementary School has closed for good.

I cried when I saw the descriptions of those sweet kids and what their ambitions were in life. I cried again this morning when I saw the Robb Elementary School teacher who was wounded, lost 11 students and said he tried his best to protect them from harm. He was apologizing to their parents for not doing more. I'm not even there and it breaks my heart.

Please know you are in my thoughts. I know everyone in Uvalde is affected because you are such a close-knit community. My heart goes out to you.

Thank you for your kind words, @dseag2 and @JonSR77. You both inspire me to be a kinder person. Hugs to you both.

I started tearing up watch that Matthew McConaughey video. The other night, Laurie and I sat down in prayer for the children. That helped a lot, helped calm me down some. So so so sad. Just little babies. Little babies with hopes and dreams.
If you think about what those little kids must have gone through before they died, it really breaks your heart. Just unbelievable. And the fact that the killings probably could have been prevented makes it even worse. Perhaps photos of those dead kids should be published to show the public what kind of damage the AR-15s can do. Some of those kids weren't even recognizable. Investigators had to match DNA from their parents to identify their children. I couldn't imagine what the parents of the murdered children are going through — the pain they must be experiencing. What a !@#$%ed up world.

Okay, I am going to say it. Celebritries do not need to show up at these events unless there is really something that they can do personally/ financially to help these families. This is not appropriate way to get press attetion.
That is his hometown...he feels connected and he should! There is also speculation that he is the one who paid for the funerals of those children (anonymous donor). He's a human being too and has a right to speak on the subject. His celebrity status might somehow help get the politicians to take this issue more seriously (wishful thinking?). I highly doubt he made his heartfelt speech because he was just "trying to get attention"!

I think it’s wonderful that he spoke about the children and that as a country we need to find a middle ground. He is right that most people want compromise and action instead of ignoring both the gun and mental health issues in this country. Those families that lost children or worked at the school will never be whole again. It’s beyond heartbreaking.

It’s his home town. It’s personal for him. This is one time I’m ok with a celebrity speaking out. He made a lot of sense.

Not that my opinion matters, but I thought he said what needed to be said while expressing his own feelings. I put myself in his place for a few moments. I was raised in a small town and I thought “what if” that happened in my town? We had (still do) a small elementary school with about 300-400 kids in it. What if some crazed gunman went in there and opened fire killing a dozen kids and a few teachers. How would I react and would I do anything?

You bet I would.
