So, I was at the horse rescue yesterday (as I mentioned) and holy hail storms, Batman! what a freaking day! We knew thunderstorms were a possibility, but not the tornado warning, pouring, slucing rain and little bit of actual hail that happened, get this, while we had 12 drafts clipped to the feed pads at the fences.

We'd just gotten everybody set up with their first round of food (some of them have to be fed in stages) and the sky turned black. Freaking yikes.

So staff I'm working with instructs to dump the rest of the food in the pans because it's going to get soaked into soup before the horses can eat it, if we don't hurry up and, omg, if anyone sees (there were three of us, two staff and myself) any lightening, we've got to run along the fence line and unclip everybody, in a hurry, not bothering with halters.

I understand why we'd have to do that, scared horses attached to things is well, not good, but I really didn't want to have to. Imagine trying to unhook a prancing frightend, really freaking big, horse in rain so thick it's hard to see the clips.

Good news was we didn't have to do that as the first sign of lightening came right as the last horse was finishing her "soup" and we managed to get everyone fed and turned out.

Bad news was I was completely and totally, well I may as well have gone swimming. Seriously, not to be indelicate, but my unmentionables were floating under my leggings. How is that even possible? And my mucking boots filled with water such that I poured literally inches out of them and had to keep doing that even after the rain stopped, and for the rest of the shift, because my soaked clothes were draining into them.

When I got home I noticed a decent bruise on one of my fingers and remembered it had started hurting at some point, but things were so bananas at the time I didn't have time to think about it.

This morning I noticed that I'd torn some of the skin under my thumb, but I didn't feel that yesterday. Man, what a day.

I know you know I'm going to say this but, yeah, it was a freaking awesome day. LOL :) :)

PS: My new, much better suited to the rain (and riding), boots are on the way from Amazon.

Wow, that sounds like an exciting day!

Don't know much about yours, but I have found that some men's "unmentionables" hold air or water when getting wet.

I envy you the rain, we could sure use a "pouring slucing rain" or most any kind of rain for that matter.

Yes, well apparently some womens' too. :/ LOL

I know right? Our half of the world needs some rain, like now.

You know what was weird? During the storm, my ears, jaw and head started hurting. It had to have something to do with the change in pressure but that's never happened to me before. ...then again, I don't usually hang around outside in such weather so who knows? :giggle:

Whoa! And, Wow! 😳

That sounds like it was crazy and frightening!o_O
A true adventure, for sure. And unique experience!

You must have been soaked, and stunned too!

I am glad you didn't need to let them loose in the middle of that!

And I am very glad you rewarded yourself with new boots, too! 🥾🥾🤩(y)

Okay, I have to admit is was mostly pretty exiciting. Although I didn't love the pain in my head and I was nervous about having to unclip in a storm, but since that didn't happen... it was kind of fun in a, holy hell! kind of way. :)

Thanks for the nice words about the boots; :) I am excited about that and now I'll be fully equipped to ride when it happens as I have a helmet and gloves at the ready. :)

I'm working there tomorrow and it's supposed to be one of our hottest days, so far. Freaky weather.

You must have been in a real storm, pressure changes and even ear popping are possible, but rare. The same pressure change happens indoors or out, but being outdoors you feel many of the other effect.

I agree it can be exciting. When I was young I even enjoyed hurricanes, as I got older I was just thinking about the damage...

OMGoodness Medusa! What a day you had. I hope your finger will not be a source of pain for you. Honey I don't know how to tell you how your unmentionables got to floating under your outer garments. Never heard that one before. 😅 Do take good care of yourself.

Just wow, what an experience! I can almost understand the bit of excitement. Almost. :) Sorry about your thumb, but so glad you weren't hurt any worse.

Be careful in the heat today.

Yes, about that...

I had to cancel going to the farm today because it's going to be 95 with a heat index of 101 and a UV of 9/10. My husband is afraid I'll have heat stroke or pass out as I'm already dizzy on standing this morning and feeling generally woozy - that it's just unsafe for me, really.

I know he's right, but I'm bummed about it anyway. Well, to be honest, honest, I'm bummed and relieved. I so very much want to be there, but yikes, that is brutal heat and to be working hard in - - my conditions, etc. Still... bummer.

My husband gently reminded me: "You're my young bride (I'm 57 and he's 70), but you're not a young woman; leave these type of days to the girls. He's right, I know, but I so want to be tougher than I actually am. If I didn't have fibro and Hashiomoto's, I probably would be, but what.are.ya.gonna.do?

Okay, that's enough whining this morning.

You guys are awesome, btw. :) ♥️

It was quite a storm.
I was wondering about that, the indoor / outdoor pressure changes thing. Maybe the water pounding into my ears? My daith piercings? I don't know...
