Medicaid and Food Stamps may be abolished!!!

I agree, it seemed much worse years ago when they actually issued food stamps or coupons and people used to stand at the entrance of the supermarket trying to sell them for half price.

There will always be some form of fraud or misuse but that may be a bit better than controlling it so tightly that deserving people are excluded.

It’s sad and a bit frustrating that these things are so complicated.
From what I read, no deserving folks will be cut off, just the worst of the abusers. It won't be controlled as tight as it should be, due to no way to police such with any efficiency. There will always be abusers that scam the system.

Around here, one of the big injustices is the parents using food welfare cards, that feed their kids very little at home since the schools provide breakfast and lunch, even in the summer. The parents eat steaks, but the kids are lucky to get a hot dog. A family with 5 kids can rake in a good monthly allowance.

I always feel good when I see a mother using a food debit card, buying beans, tortillas, hamburger, and a few veggies. I know that mother is going to feed her family equally and not dependent on free foods paid for tax dollars.

True story. My sister was shopping at a supermarket in an area where mostly the affluent lived. She said she saw a rich looking White lady at the register who had bought lobster, among other things. She checked out using food stamps and proceeded to drive away in a white Mercedes.
Maybe I'm dense, but I'm missing what the lady's skin color has to do with anything. And I do think it's important to remember that debt is not factored into SNAP eligibility... that Mercedes could have someone in deep debt for 20 years. Yep, playing devil's advocate here, but it *is* something to consider. The other end of it is the richest person I know (multi millions) goes shopping in t-shirts and sweats and drives an old Toyota. Book by it's cover? Often not.

I don't believe the stories told here about abuse witnessed. As for buying lobster, steak, how much in food stamps do you think a person gets? Buy that lobster & steak and nothing else, because there's not much left over. MYOB about who eats what. Are you saying you watch what people pay with and then what car they drive? If you do, you're sick in the head.

"not many are authorized buys" How the hell do you know. Sick in the head. Too scared to face who is really stealing from you. Easier to pick on some poor schmuck than deal with reality. Sick.

Totally disgusted with some self-righteous folks here. Go walk a mile in someone' moccasins, why don't you?

True, but authorized shoppers are very few*. Also most of the authorized shoppers I know don't drive expensive vehicles.
*Where is this information found? My mother had Alzheimer's and was incapable of driving, let alone shopping. My wife and I bought what she needed.

Our food stamp recipients have a food debit card. Not in every case but some and frequently, for items they can't buy with the card, they pull out $100 bills. An example is for beer, sometimes several cases of it. Most drive newer vehicles worth over 40K. Lots of BMWs and Mercedes. Some live in expensive neighborhoods. One of my neighbors explained it to me because he does the same thing but for the poorer folks in our middle class neighborhood.

A landlord buys a large expensive house with many bedrooms and baths. They rent out the rooms to multiple families. Those families usually work for a labor contractor that pays them in cash since they are considered temporaries, so no taxes. They can draw food card assistance because they show little income, just enough to show they have some but stay under any taxable income. They pay their rent in cash, so the landlord pays little or no taxes. They report enough to explain how they pay their mortgage. Many times the vehicles are leased, so no value is assigned, but rather a liability.
I have lived in five different states and I have never seen this happen nor have any of my friends since we would’ve been talking about it. Next you’ll be saying, their maids and butlers were picking up their food using snap cards🤣.

The program is good, however, I do believe it needs an overhaul. Why not look at it and try to weed out some fraud and abuse?
The stories and anecdotes abound but I think the core program will stay in place.

From the Kaiser Family Foundation:

Nearly 60% of Medicaid enrollees with disabilities have two or more difficulties and 16% have four or more difficulties. Among the over 15 million Medicaid enrollees with disabilities, 53% report difficulties with cognition, which is defined as difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions; 48% report difficulties with ambulation (defined as difficulty with walking or climbing stairs); 44% report difficulties living independently (defined as difficulty doing errands alone such as visiting a doctor’s office or shopping);and 24% report difficulties with self-care (defined as difficulty dressing or bathing).

There are 24.5 million millionaires living in the U.S. today. That's a lot of folks. I am one of them. Thus, American society has a very strong middle class of millionaires.

As of 2023, there are a mere 735 billionaires in the U.S.

I don't know you, but I doubt you could have walked ten feet in either my or my husbands moccasins, boots, or shoes. Call my stories made up and believe the politicians that have lied to you, that is your right.

Calling me sick in the head certainly doesn't make any point you may have had. Seems like a personal attack, How the hell do I know? Well one daughter, one son, and one granddaughter works for the state so I am well aware what is happening in my area and state. The hubs worked in an admin position for the public school system for 40 years. I worked for the state as an investigator for 2 years before I went to work for UPS for 20 years. It is amazing what one sees with their own eyes when they have them open.

I know who is stealing from me and it is the politicians that got wealthy on tax payer money. One example is the one that took money for free college claiming she was American Indian. She stole funds that could have helped a real blood American Indian go to college. Being 1/1000th Indian blood didn't qualify her. Those of 1/4th blood that were qualified, but denied because there wasn't enough funding for the college they wanted to go, is what is sick. If they went to college, it was not one of their first choice.

As far as authorized shoppers for food card recipients, one of my granddaughters is authorized and does this for her other grandmother and another disabled person that use food cards.

I strongly recommend the computer game of Civilization VI for every member here. I'm 90 and never worry about my mortality since I enjoy killing millions in that game. I get to use nuclear weapons, jet bombers and modern armor to crush and destroy millions in many, many cities. Even when I die in that game, I simply get reborn in a new game and keep up the great experience of nuking dozens of cities!

Nope! I don't make up stories like that. It is apparent you didn't read what I wrote with any understanding and certainly not an open mind. It is apparent to me that some of you live in privilege and have no understanding of what poverty is. Also how the welfare system works and why it needs reform.

I have worked in both the welfare system and for vocational rehabilitation with people with disabilities and on welfare in three different states. I have three graduate degrees between these areas. So I know exactly what is going on.

A sizeable share of the US population depends on these programs. More than 71 million people are enrolled in Medicaid, and roughly 42 million Americans receive food stamps, according to the federal agencies that oversee them. The Administration is considering abolishing these programs.

That could be a real disaster for the poor people in America. Lots of folks will now have no food and no medical care. The people proposing this are billionaires who have no feeling for the lower classes.

Soon America may be only for billionaires and even the middle classes may soon be in deep trouble.

This action could affect the social balance in America and could even result in civil war or revolution!

It doesn't matter what they call it, as long as people in need are able to access the help they need. I have read some on this topic, and I was pretty shocked to find out how, say, Section 8 was administered. Same with food stamps. The idea is sound, but there is simply nowhere near enough investigation into fraud.

Sadly, this leads to people labeling everyone on these benefits in a negative way. Personally, I've been consistent in saying that the true measure of a country is how they treat the poorest among them.

That said, people voted for these policies, and that's the system you have in place.

.......... The Future Lives in Satiracality .......... :coffee: ...

For much of the world its waste & wait for some weeks, sit for some days, come back soon and sit for some more days.
So, one figures cutting costs begins with the schedules all fouled up and the waiting rooms all filled up.

Now, reduce the number of graduates in Medical and Nursing field and it becomes quacks and nuns. Once again
religion/prayer and Priests win-win and have jobs a plenty. Hospitals are once again low-cost Catholic / etc.

Reduce the numbers graduating from Legal schools and Lawyers, judges and politician numbers reduce.
Cost savings galore and everybody is equally good at keyboard crashes.

Life expectancies drop considerably, no more senior Burbon for anyone. Social Security and Medicare / health
insurance can change to expeditions to Mars, Titan and Europa. Much to learn out of there.

What's important is once again getting done. ... ... Having Military parades pretty much shows where the top dog's thoughts are for.
Right more new Flagpoles too!

Social Stability is gained thru hunger and equality. Private Jets sit with flats.

So, you see; Our best years are ahead of us, not behind a brick.

Yep, it is called securing our country, but now this has no bearing on the topic, just bashing.

Living in a rural area, Medicaid cuts concern me, even though I'm not on Medicaid.

It is very likely that many rural clinics would close if Medicaid funding is cut back. Rural hospitals and clinics already operate on tight margins and rely on Medicaid reimbursements to stay afloat. Cuts to Medicaid could force them to reduce services, lay off staff, or even close their doors entirely, leaving those communities with limited (or no) access to healthcare.
That becomes a $27,000 helicopter ride. Whoop-Whoop ! The future then resides with Helicopter ride insurance.
Now Bunji jumping takes center stage, doors opening things to do out them.

I might point out that Medicaid and Medicare differ and First responder services have different sources of funding and if Medicaid and Medicare fraud gets cut, it won't have any affect on it. Nobody getting Medicaid or Medicare legally and honestly, will be cut. No poor person is going to die or be refused services, that is just a false narrative meant to scare older folks and take the focus off the last four years of lies and fraud.

The parade was for the 250th anniversary of the army. I have no problem having a celebration to honor our military. None!! The smiles on those young men’s and women’s faces were priceless! Our Military is very important. Was it a waste of money to have a parade when the WW1 and 2 soliders came home too? Some of you are Vietnam Vets here and never had a parade! How sad that was!:(

I don't think it's a meant to simply scare people. Unless you trust politicians to only ever do the right thing, the good thing, the caring thing. Personally, I don't trust them. Caution when relying on governments should be the norm.......

Governments of the World now only mine Digital Currencies.
Its all about trade. Send me 5 chips, I send you 5 bags of Georgia peanuts.
50 Peanuts in their shells per bag ='s 5 silicon chips.

true!

The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) must provide treatment to anyone in need, regardless of their ability to pay.

The last four years?
Medicare fraud has been going on since it's inception in 1965.
How about what was going on six years ago?
