Medicine costing $100,000 per year!

I really should buy stock in some US drug companies. They make a fortune screwing over patients and insurance companies.

The drug companies spend hundreds of millions, perhaps billions, on the Ask Your Doctor advertising. Those costs are then passed along to the patients who have been brainwashed into believing that these drugs are a Cure All for their ailment. Usually, the Side Effects then require even more drugs to be prescribed...and the vicious circle continues. Historically, some of the best, long term, financial investments on the stock market are the drug companies. Prescription drugs, and the way they are managed in the U.S. is probably the Best argument FOR a SP-UHC plan.

Unfortunately that is so.

The system sucks!

Yes, $100,000 a year is an awful lot of money! There was a time when drug companies were focused more on finding drugs to cure us or improve our quality of life but now, like all large corporations, they seem more concerned with profits. We all share the costs of these high prices through the rising insurance rates--premiums, deductibles, co-pays and out of pocket expenses. One very vicious cycle and all seeming so unfair. Bankruptcies affect millions of people a year due to medical expenses. Though most people have insurance, all the out-of-pocket expenses causes hardship at a time when serious illness hits a family. They used to describe middle-class families as one paycheck away from poverty. Now it's we're but one serious illness away!
