Jack is 17 1/2 according to his paperwork. His owners decided they didn’t want him any more because he was too old now. 😡

Sometimes I just hate people, y’know? 😢

Jack is going to a senior sanctuary in a few days. Till he does he’ll get lots of love and skritches, sleep in a soft bed and hang with my crew who he’s decided he loves to pieces! Oh, and he’ll eat lots of dried liver treats, he loses his everloving mind for them! 😂

😤 How terribly awful would I be to secretly hope the same happens to the owners someday? Too old... so everyone abandons them. I'm not familiar with senior sactuaries... he'll be loved and pampered there?
Until he goes to a senior sanctuary.
I ‘think’ Ronni is caring for him before he’s euthanized. Sorry. I know the question was for Ronni. My bad. 😬

Oh. I didn't recognize the term. I deleted my question. Thanks, Patty. And thank you for doing this, @Ronni .
(EDITED TO SAY....)
Wait, are you sure that's right? I just looked it up to educate myself and found this:

Our Sanctuary provides a safe haven for senior dogs who are unable to be cared for by their owners, who are abandoned or abused, or face euthanasia.

Yes. There are some wonderful people in this world thankfully, to balance out the crappy ones! ❤️

Here in Tennessee, we have one such sanctuary. Wonderful people, compassionate and loving cause.

Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary

There are similar places throughout the US. Not many, not compared to the countless rescue organizations, but still, they exist. And they are SO appreciated! ❤️

Oh, I'm so glad I was right the first time! Jack is precious. :giggle:

@CallMeKate The senior sanctuary I’m talking about either cares for their senior dogs in-house, or places them with specialized fosters who care for them till they pass away or require humane euthanasia.

He’s a sweet, dear old man. ❤️ A little crabby if you don’t handle him gently, I think he has some back end pain so I’m careful to touch him softly. He doesn’t like to be picked up, I think because it’s painful for him, but will slowly make his way onto my lap if I’m sitting on the floor.

Senior dogs have their issues, for sure. I have two of my own, Racer (pictured with Jack) is 17 and Jazz my little chihuahua is 15 and they are both dealing with mobility, digestive, and/or hearing/sight issues, and it’s clear Racer is succumbing to doggie dementia. But it’s inconceivable to me to consider surrendering them to a shelter because they’re becoming bothersome or costly to care for!

Yeah it’s often more work, more time invested, and not a lot of fun to deal with the issues. Still, it’s the least I can do for them after the years of unconditional love and devotion and fun and pleasure they’ve given me!

You are so kind for bringing Jack into your home until he goes to the sanctuary, I'm with you, like animals more than people. Hugs for both of you.

I first dog was inherited - a mixture of some and some dingo too - she was a very docile dog but could take care of herself - never had pups - she spent her final days on 8 acres of land and had the run of it but strangely enough wouldn't go far with a human member. in the end she wouldn't mix with the other dogs juset kept to herself slept all day and finally was wheezing bad - called the vet and he said she is ready to go and did it on the spot then me and my fil buried her across from the main house - had her about 12 yrs Kate she was called - now have lucky found on someones front lawn at 4am as a new born pup could have died would have died on the spot but fil used pippet to feed him. he is now 30 kgs and at a charge would topple you - but not one bone of malice in him welcomes everyone and better still if ya have a bone of dried pigs ear!!

I can understand that, I'd hate to think how they would treat someone like DH and I. Poor dog, deserves better than them anyway!
