Megan Kelly Fired But Did NBC Forget About This?

It's Halloween so Megan Kelly said on her show that it was okay for white people to blacken their skin for Halloween costumes. She got some viewer backlash, tearfully apologized, on air, and said it is never okay to go blackface for Halloween. But then we have all of Hollywood clapping and laughing at this 1999 costume (below).

I think there must have been another agenda. Maybe they were having to pay her too much? Maybe the show was tanking anyway?

The show was tanking anyway. They shoved Al Roker & Tamron Hall aside and gave the time slot and huge salary to Megyn, and her ratings were lower. Tamron quit. There were awkward interviews with Debra Messing and Jane Fonda. For several reasons Megyn wasn't connecting with viewers. It was more than the blackface ruckus.

Her apology was too little too late.

I found this interesting:

I find Whoopie's costume interesting.

Meghan was trying to say "as long as you're a certain character..." but people were already shouting. It was an uninformed remark, but I do not believe she meant any harm, so I agree they wanted to get rid of her anyway.

Very interesting comments and I agree. NBC always has a big controversy when someone leaves or is fired. Remember Ann Curry? What a mess that was. She was good too. I liked her a lot and never like Matt Later...oh, and then he got in a mess of trouble too. Oh, and Katie Couric. She was at her height of popularity when it all went south for some unknown reason (to me).

Now that I think of it, Megyn Kelly always seemed to be in trouble. Putin made her look ridiculous when she interviewed him. She needs to stick to a career where she doesn't have to give her opinion on anything. Oh, and we won't talk about the debate she moderated in 1016 other than to say, another troubling mess.

[h=1]Megyn Kelly out at 'Today,' will still collect $69 million[/h]

I'd like to get fired like that myself.

I really liked Ann Curry; felt bad for way she was treated.

I wasn't a regular viewer of Megyn's show but I saw/heard enough to know it was sinking.

Months ago TMZ posted a video of Lara Spencer (GMA) and Megyn snubbing each other at the airport. It was funny. Tension...yikes. I could only find short video but the looooooong one is much better.

Since I don't watch Megyn Kelly, I had to go find and watch that segment that included the black face costume controversial remark. So, it was a round table discussion which included being too PC about Halloween costumes, especially about what some university had restrictions about what costumes the students could wear. And so they talked about how silly it was to restrict dressing as a cowboy and some other stuff and Kelly threw in wearing black face as another example.

The whole discussion was mindless and the main theme was that oh, my, we're all so too PC. Just wish they threw in more actual thinking. One of the panelists did say that darkening the skin of a white person to impersonate Diana Ross was racist, but no one paid attention to that remark and they just went on with their discussion about being too PC.

So, the Megyn Kelly thing is actually a talk show? As I said, I've never actually watched her.

I don't watch TV in the morning. WhenI heard NBC 'lured' her away from Fox with the ridiculous amount of money,$ 70 million for 3 years I thought to myself she won't last'.This was another major mistake by NBC News President,Andrew Lack in hiring her
I saw a clip of her apology, the look on her face said' woe is me,with the crocodile tears, didn't believe her.She is a lawyer,I certainly wouldn't want her to represent me. Sue

I didn't see any tears or any hint of them. Maybe I need to wash my glasses. 69 million plus future books to retire on at her age? Who knows what other irons she has in the fire.

She's crazy like a fox.

NBC was paying her almost as much as Matt Lauer. Not quite but almost. And we know how THAT turned out.

Megyn had a staff of 200 people (separate from Today show staff).
200...lots of assistants who most likely had their own assistants.

Okay, so there's scheduling, travel coordinator, producers, wardrobe, makeup, hair, limo driver, custodians, camera operators, sound technicians, lighting, computer geeks, writers, editors, publicists, people to get coffee & food, ...but 200 people??

When the fur hit the fan she fired her agent, hired another, then that agency quit. Folks I couldn't make this stuff up. So many articles and reports...my eyes glazed over and I can't find all the links.

What a mess. Whew

I don't think blackface discussion was worthy of firing. That being said Kelly is supposed to be a 'professional' meaning should at least know what to say just to keep her job/protect herself.

I find it ironic that the network that wanted her out also turned a blind eye to the crap Matt Lauer pulled along with other comments from news show hosts. From what I heard many employees wanted her out from day one wether it be ideological difference or jealous of her multi million dollar deal.

I've frequently someone felt she might be doing drugs/uppers of somekind. She seemed to control her weight but did not look healthy much of the time. We'll have to wait for an unauthorized biography I guess.

Economic insanity! We have created a monster. The salaries of TV personalities, athletes, etc. is a sure sign of our insanity. Athletes for instance get multi million deals for playing a game they would play for free were these huge salaries not offered. Meanwhile we have highly educated professionals working in fields that might well yield a cure for cancer one day working for MUCH less financial reward. Ticket prices prevent taking a child to a ball park to see a ballgame, what is wrong with that? EVERYTHING !

Sue, relax, that was a JOKE! Lara obviously meant to say something about a TV interview that Megan Kelly conducted in 2016, but she accidentally typed 1016. (Go back and look.) I was referring to the fact
that that would make her over 1000 years old. :bigwink:
