Memory is really going down the tubes

The smoke alarm went off, so I went to investigate. There was a potato baking in the oven. Problem is....I don't even remember putting it there. It was edible (for me anyway), but really crisp! Probably had been there at least 2 hours.

Is there something you can do to help remind yourself when you put something in the oven? Do you have a timer on your stove?

I wouldn't have heard an alert if it was in the kitchen since I am usually upstairs. I do have a portable timer, but I forgot to set it!

We've forgotten about turkeys cooking in the oven and the meat that could be salvaged was only good for sandwiches. It's been a while, though. I think after ruining two turkeys, we've learned to put up post-it notes on our monitors and things like that. There's probably a smartphone app that could be used for reminders.

I have similar problems.

I switched to a countertop Oster convection toaster oven with a timer that shuts off automatically.
