Men-Do you wear long hair? Do you tie it up?

I have worn short hair almost all my life. I still get my hair cut every 2 weeks by my girlfriend.
Now she’s on this kick for me to let my hair grow out. It’s not for me, but every time she cuts it, I hear about it.
It’s really starting to get on my nerves and I want to tell her to leave it alone, but don’t want to start a thing about it.
I don’t color it or anything else. It’s got some gray in it now, but I’m not 25 anymore.

Kinda sounds like you're going to have to say something to her, maybe just very gently?

When we met my husband was 36 and had a ponytail that really didn't suit him. I didn't bother him about it, but I was relieved when he had it cut off a couple years later. I don't dislike long hair on men, but it has to work with their features.

I agree. To each their own . Some men choose to grow their hair long but it’s best if it suites them. Some men look great with long hair while others don’t. Long hair looks best if it’s well cared for; meaning it needs trimming to care for split ends etc. Long straggly hair looks horrible on both sexes.
 

No, I've never worn hair long enough to tie up. I want the back part to stop at or above the collar. Since I cut my own hair, I don't have to worry if someone is going to chop it up or cut it too short.
 
I keep my hair short. I comb it, but I never let it hang over my ears or my neck. My dad was the same way.
I have a full head of hair, although it may have thinned over the years to some degreeI would think it should be up to the individual. , but I like keeping it short.

If your girlfriend likes guys with long hair, you may be fighting a losing battle. It seems kind of petty to argue over how long a person’s air should be. I think it should be up to the individual.
 
In highschool my hair was longish because I didn't want to fork out $2 for a haircut, but I never tied it up or had a pony tail. I started getting basic man cuts once I graduated and started working.

If I were to grow it out at this age I would definitely style it in a man bun, that would be great for covering my bald spot.😉
 
DH keeps his short now and it is finer than 10 years ago so it flies around a bit.
So he plasters it down with whatever he has on hand and personally;
I love the blown look better (sort of a Billy Bob Thornton look on him) .
It's not in his eyes but you can see hair at least. But it's his head and he feels
comfortable with it smacked down flat for some reason.
 
I still have a pony tail, but I'm not committed to it. I think about going back to a regular cut, but when I mentioned it to others, I've always been told I should leave it. So I leave it as it is. As long as it's not offensive to my friends, I'm OK with it.
 
In the Marines, males and females have different restrictions on hairstyles. I’m not very familiar with females, but males must keep their hair neat and short. I usually had mine buzzed on the sides with a little more on top. Now, I have it cut about the same all over, except during summer I go back to having the sides buzzed. Everyone’s heard the saying, “high and tight.” Shaved sides and short on top. I don’t shave the sides, but recruits get mostly shaved all over. I have no intention of changing my hair style to suit anyone. It’s what I am comfortable with. A Marine’s hair is part of his uniform inspection.

When out and about, I have been approached by many Marines, both active and retired. They will ask me if I am still on active duty.

I think the UK equivalent to 'high and tight' would be 'short back and sides', which was the norm when I was a child growing up in the 50s and early 60s.
 
Have never liked shoulder length long hair for myself but did grow it so briefly in my 20s. Thus my hair has never been really long, nor barber cut for decades, but rather now as a senior, is at most a bit below chin length. So yes, just long enough to tie a pony tail band around at the back when I want to be more publicly presentable to not be an issue with conservative others.

I have rather fine, moderately brown hair, inherited from my mother's northeastern European ancestry, that has been slowly increasingly adding some gray over the last decade. Of course, almost every other European ancestry male my age is already quite gray, so am unique aging slowly in that regard. But for the last decade have had moderate pattern baldness on top.

During my working hi tech career and even while in the USAF, it was usually a bit shorter and combed back. One needs to also realize that I've been rather short and thin with BMI 22, for European ancestry males at 66 inches, that has always probably had more impact on how others subtly categorize me.

However, away from my work, have always worn it in an old wild man style. For decades, have never used hair products, and it has never been dyed. I use cleaning shampoo that removes all oils/ingredients that after drying has lots of body. This is what it looked like 20 years ago for work:

And this is what it looked like last year at age 75 that shows my hair really still does not have much gray and is rather fine that allows it to naturally have a lot of body that bounces when dynamically freestyle dancing. But yeah, some pattern baldness, haha:

I think I got into the habit of wearing short hair while in the Marines. However, when we were in Vietnam, we didn’t have a barbershop to go visit. Sometimes if we were in the field or jungle, we would cut each others hair. If we got to one of the villages of back to a base camp, there may have been someone there to cut our hair. As hot as it was, having short hair was best.

The state police also has strict standards of keeping the hair neatly trimmed. No hair can be over the ears or collar on the shirt. They don’t allow beards on uniformed Troopers. Investigators are given a “little” more leniency.

You need to wear your hair the way YOU want.

Some Men do look great in longer hair while others do not.

Same with mustaches. Husband had a mustache his entire life, except for when he mis-trimmed, had to shave it and he looked terrible without it. Other men look better without a mustache.

Be yourself as long as it is neat and presentable. Scraggly —- I cannot stand scraggly and unkempt——
 
I had long hair during the 1960s and early 1970s when I was a counterculture musician.
But today I think it looks stupid on a man. Longer on the neck looks okay in some circumstances, but below the collar looks silly. Unless they're trying to be weird there's no way it looks good on a man-- irrespective of his age. And worse yet are the idiot looking "male buns", which make men look wussy.
 
To each his own. It never bothered me when (boys at the time and men now) had or have long hair, but I personally wasn't attracted to that type. I made it a point not to date someone whose hair was longer than mine or someone who wanted to borrow my earrings !!!
 
I've hated short hair my entire life on men, and now the bald look on men and women. When I was younger, my hair was almost to my waist. I have always had my hair longish. That's probably why I have loved that song from the musical Hair. "Give me a head with hair, long beautiful hair."

That was a good song, Brings back a lot of memories from that era.
