Men with terrible beards

I have often wondered why so many men are starting to wear those awful looking unshaved beards?

Then I found out last night. It must be that American TV show, "Duck Dynasty." So many men around here are shaving their heads off to look like Kojak and the rest of them are desperately trying to look like those guys on Duck Dynasty.

What are your thoughts on these "winners?" I especially would love to hear the opinion of the female sex on this. Sorry, all you "gender neutrals" out there!

By the way, I still have most of my hair on my head and I shave each morning. Guess I just don't "fit in."

Well, I have a theory.

I was watching TV and saw an ad come on that was peddling a shopping bag's worth of products recommended just to care for one beard. There were combs, a couple of clippers, doodads I didn't even recognize, and a huge set of shampoos, conditioners, oils, scents, tonics... and maybe insecticides for the inevitable vermin.

I detest those long straddly beards as in those pictures. Makes me feel sick.
Some longer beards I've no problems with ie Gary O's look:giggle:.
On of my ex's had one of those 'designer stubble' type beards. I neither liked it or disliked it.

My dad was bald from age 18. From the 1950s he grew a moustache and it became one of his trademarks over the years 'cos it was the 'handlebar moustache' type, not overgrown - just a well groomed one that he used to twiddle about with when he was relaxing :giggle:

My husband could only have a mustache at the department. When he retired, he started out growing a goatee which was OK at his retirement job. After that job, he started to grow his beard out.

It gets trimmed regularly at the barbers with his head shaved. He has the conditions/oils to keep it in good shape. It's on the long side, but doesn't look unkept at all. If I get rune beads, I can braid it like the vikings.

I worked with a few guys who did undercover & grew long beards that was well kept. They all looked good.

What I don't like long shaggy unkept hair, pony tails or man buns.

I really hate those long beards, they always seem to have the remains of their last meal in them..*ugh*... however it must be a Fashion because we don't get that tv show here.. and there's many young ones making themselves look old by having those long biblical beards

I prefer to be clean shaven for myself. I don’t realy have an opinion on men who have beards of any style. What they do is for them, they can do and have whatever they want. Which is how it should be.

I don’t even draw the line with women with beards.

Now I don’t want to go off topic, but I feel it has to be mentioned. Some men seem to have huge eyebrows. What’s that all about! It seems to be a trade mark of some politicians. Some seem out of this world and it’s difficult to know whether they are alive or not. Their eyebrows that is, not the politicians. Some eyebrows even seem to have their own breathing pattern.

Actually, now I think about it, it does sometime seem that some politicians aren’t alive. Or at least the ones we see asleep in the Houses of Parliament.

Regarding these eyebrows, I can’t help wondering whether some hair care product companies have missed a business opportunity. Just think about it for a moment, a whole new product line of shampoos and conditioners just for eyebrows. Including a type of specially made and marketed frizz-ease and styling moose.

Then there is speciality combs and brushes to consider, along with miniature curling tongs. The possibilities are endless!

When I was a sailor in the 1950s we were going from Norfolk VA to the Mediterranean. A number of us thought that we would be at sea for some time, it would be a good time to experiment with growing a beard. Mine lasted 3 days, because it itched so bad I could not stand it.

Some years later I grew just a mustache. It didn't itch, but when we went snorkeling, my face mask leaked profusely. I have been clean shaven ever since.

I hate to be judgemental. Would I ever have facial hair? No. Never have, never will. Unruly or not, I prefer the clean look. But if someone wants to go crazy, go crazy.

My father was bald by 18. I lived my youth waiting for the horrible day when I lost my hair too. It was a real fear. Now here I am, and I still have a full head of hair. Ironically, it's quite annoying now. I have to get it cut every now and again, wash it in the shower, etc. It's WORK and no-one cares what I look like.

Once I told the barber to just get rid of it all. I had myself shaved bald. It was a huge mistake, and I looked a lot like that guy who sang in Bad Manners. It was horrific, and I had to live with it for weeks while it grew back. Right now my damn hair is near touching my shoulders again because I've been too lazy to get it cut. I'm going to be forced to see a barber soon.

Sign of laziness to me, and something to hide!

I compare it to women wearing long hair. Keep it looking nice and clean. If a man wants a long beard, keep it neat and clean looking. It may be clean, but looking clean and groomed is also included. That's just me.

I had a beard for a while, it was more grief than it was worth. A beard is OK if it doesn't look like it's a nest made by vermin. I don't know why but beards come and go all through out history. The Egyptians were clean shaven, but made false beards. The Romans were clean shaven. For some reason, every guy shaves ,then in later period, grows a beard.???????
BTW, no way in hell would I have a bun or a ponytail.
