Mentally ill Teenager shot and killed by police yet again.

This just happened in California (where another mentally impaired child was recently killed by the police also), and tragically, a depressed and frightened teenager who seemed to be trying to chase away a deputy responding to the scene, was simply shot and killed by the officer with no other attempts to stop her.
Some witnesses are saying that the girl was actually shot in the back, which would mean that she was not chasing the deputy, but trying to escape from him.
It is not known whether the deputy told her to put the knife down before he shot and killed her.
What happened, was that the parents could not get their daughter to take her medication, and she was apparently distraught, so they called for paramedics to come and help them with their daughter.
Instead, armed deputies arrived, and within minutes had shot and killed the girl, leaving her family shocked and distraught.
It is pretty worrisome when the people that you call to help you, instead come and kill your family members.

HFL, I have always wondered why the police can't carry something like a casting net in the police cars for these situations. I have seen zoo keepers use what looks like a rifle with a canister that when you pull the trigger the net shoots out and covers the target. I think they use them on animals to lessen any physical harm to the animal, and the shooter. Why hasn't anyone come up with one for people, or just use what the zoo people use. :dunno:

This happened not too far from me and they were interviewing a young teenage girl on the local news who says she feels the officer was trying to save HER as the girl was coming at her with the knife.

Trying to find a link to the interview of the girl I saw on the news but can`t find one. The article I did see though states that she was definitely NOT shot in the back. A very close friend of my kids when we lived in the San Francisco Bay Area became a San Jose city cop. He had only been on the force a short time when he was shot and killed by a 14 year old boy. These men and women in law enforcement are doing a job today that none of us can really imagine. Used to be the "bad guys" were not usually kids-nowadays it`s more and more common for them to be.

I won't jump to conclusions because there are conflicting accounts about what happened.
There is the version police are giving and also eye witness accounts which verify what police say took place.
Nowhere in the article did I read that Yanira Serrano-Garcia was running away from police and was then shot in the back.
Happyflowerlady must have read that somewhere. I did not.
I can completely understand Yanira Serrano-Garcia's family requesting an investigation into the matter.
But until reports come back complete with the coroner's findings, statements by all witnesses, and all other findings.... I will not judge what happened.
