I spent this Christmas Eve with phantoms; Scrooge's three plus a generous handful more. in my memory, I enjoyed visits from long gone friends and family. I laughed and shed real tears. I even hauled my tired old carcass to church for an early service, although I still am not a believer. I sang (as best I could) the old songs from my youth and shook the hands of strangers.

I'll have no boy running by as I throw my window open in the morning, but even without his aid I will know that it is Christmas Day and welcome my 80'th Yuletide as a dweller on this battered old globe
