Meteorological spring is here!

No sign of spring here, though, as more snow fell overnight. But the days are getting longer and the sun is getting stronger, and so are my martinis, as I sip them listening to the Beatles sing their rendition of Here Comes the Sun. How are you coping if you live in the constant storm zone?

We've only had a sprinkling of snow here in the South so far this winter..unlike the north of the country who've had quite a lot..

We've had a lot of rain but also a lot of sunny days... this morning it's sunny..although cold.. ..our days are definitely staying lighter longer..it's light in the morning now when I go to work, and just about light when I leave to come home about 5.30 or 6...so roll on Spring and summer..

Next weekend is looking as though Spring may spring.....I hope so..

Over here it's technically Autumn but it's still hot and the wind is strong.
Bark from the gum trees litters the ground most of the time but this morning the ground was practically covered with it.

Max today was 25oC and Min was 17oC (77oF; 62.6oF)
Jealous?

Yes; very, Dame Warrigal.
i bet those in NE States and East Canada are even more jealous!

I just knew that some furriner living in some primitive place would get cheeky...

Definite drop in temperature today in my corner of north west England. An icy wind is blowing, a bit of sleet earlier but only lasted a matter of minutes. Overall it's not been a hard winter and not a drop of snow but that's usual for this neck of the woods.

We normally get snow/ice once or twice a winter season. February our normal temperature should be an average of 60F..
We got this on Friday and Saturday!! Estimated 700 vehicle accidents in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area!!

This has been a Winter of Extremes, in many parts of the country. Boston may set an all time snowfall record in the next few days, and the deep South, from Texas through the Carolina's, has seen snow and ice that has caused major highway pileups. Just yesterday, we got 5" of snow and ice, and there was a real mess on I-44 in southern MO.

The good news...if Accuweather long range forecasts are correct...is that by this weekend things should turn around nicely, and middle March, and beyond, looks much warmer....I hope.

I'm happy we missed two months of winter. Gale force winds, a bit of snow, and cold. Going to miss 3 months this coming winter!

Well, were getting a break, a warm spell of only -3 C today.... sunny too. Not officially spring yet, but I can smell it coming. We had the coldest February on record in my city and we've had plenty to grumble about, but now were in March and its only going to get better.

We've had the best summer yet in Melbourne: No summer at all--average 17 to 22c-magical to my way of thinking!
Still, we are warned daily about penetrating UVA rays; never venture outside without hat and UVA protective skin cream.

The red back is a small spider but it's venom is very deadly. It's just that it's) fangs are small and can't inject all that much at a time. What is remarkable is the strength of its web. NASA would do well to try to synthesise it. The (admittedly small snake was snared in the web under the car which then allowed the spider to dispatch it with multiple bites.

I've see photos of mice and small birds trapped by red back webs. That's how I know if there is one in the yard. The web is very untidy and when you draw a stick through it it tears but you can feel the resistance. The spider is then easy to find and kill.

The brown furry ones as pussy cats. They are completely harmless. The deadly ones in the garden are exactly that - deadly, with big fangs and cranky dispositions.

Primitive, very primitive...
