Meth...is it as big a problem in the Uk and Australia as it is here?

Hasn't really caught on here, (yet ,) allegedly bacause it is so easy to get ecstasy (spelling?) and legal and illegal highs.

Quite a bit of meth I suspect, we hear of the odd one going berserk in ER etc so there must be a lot more out there that don't make the news.

Yes I have seen those pictures of the effects of Krokodil thanks, don't want to again. It's a Russian thing, it's hit the States?? Why? better stuff than that around surely. But then they don't think that way do they?

Meth is quite easy to make; from pseudo ephedrine ; and we have extremely tight controls on the sales of that, and codeine too.
when I was working; (sorry, today seems to be all me,me,me!) I used to deal with addicts on a daily basis....some ok, some not so ok.
they all looked awful....sores, thin, old.....

Hate to read about this stuff with problems in my own Family which I won't relate on this Forum.

I'm sorry Gar, don't mean to upset you.....
As I was a pharmacist in a former life, I have seen quite enough for me..

Sorry but if people are dumb enough to take any kind of prohibited drug then why should I worry about it.
There have been pleanty of info AND help out there about the dangers of these drugs but they take it anyways.

If you see any of the programmes on Australian border controls; they seize loads of pseudo ephedrine coming in from China etc.
so imagine how much gets through?

I've had a few encounters with meth-heads during their wild times and it isn't pretty. It's a nasty, nasty drug and I feel for anyone who is addicted or who knows someone who is.

... but it's a Schedule II drug, whereas Marijuana is Schedule I. Go figure.

Schedule 1 includes drugs that are not used medicinally; LSD is there too.

Schedule 2 includes heroin and cocaine etc.

But....LSD cocaine, ecstasy, etc are Class A, graded according to the harmfulness attributable to a drug when it is misused.

Class B includes amphetamines, barbiturates, (remember them?) cannabis...

But here in the States the legal system goes by the Schedule and not the Class of drugs - unfortunately.

Marijuana has an almost overwhelming amount of studies and data that indicate it is medically useful, but much of it is ignored by the Feds - I believe that's why it hasn't been downgraded. Strangely enough we have a situation here where the states legalize it for medicinal purposes but the Federal government still stubbornly maintains it is illegal.

As you might imagine that has produced some colorful confrontations ...

The law here desperately needs updating.

The Government ban one legal high, and 3 more pop up in it's place....and nobody knows what is in them; additives; bulking agents etc; which makes them even more dangerous.

Some say that doesn't matter, let them kill themselves; but I don't think it is as simple as that....

Those would be the "Spice" artificial marijuana concoctions? Those are horrible - we've had a dozen or so deaths in the States from those, mainly young kids that purchased them in the local convenience store when they were legal.

The problem appears to be, as soon as one compound is banned the basement chemists come up with one with a few extra carbon atoms attached and for a while it's legal. The latest legislation has been closing off that loophole, though - a good thing.

As I understand it, the precursor for Spice and all the derivatives was intended to be used as a fertilizer - that means that one would truly be "smoking some sh*t". :(
