Mexican security forces kill cartel leader in shootout. Town now under siege by cartel.

Sadly, these criminals’ actions will affect the people in Mexico who depend on tourism for their livelihood, and it may tarnish the industry for years to come.
That's so true. I've often been told that the cartels avoid violence toward tourists because they bring money into Mexico but this time seems different.

It was reported they weren’t hurting tourists. The told people to get out of vehicles and then set them on fire. This is a way of telling the government not to mess with them again or they’ll cause major unrest and scare away the tourists. Also, they have to battle out who will be the next cartel leader.

As for scaring away tourists, it worked. I’d been thinking of a Mexican vacation.

Thanks for pointing this out. I'm scheduled to depart on a cruise to Mexico on March 28 with friends on Holland America. Puerta Vallarta isn't one of the ports, but when I went on their website our cruise was no longer listed. We'll see what happens.
Years ago there was a problem with dangers in Mexico. The cruise company pivoted with extra "fun days at sea." We had an extra day at Cabo and skipped PV and Mazatlan. No biggie for me. I cruise for the sea days, not the ports.

It is about time that Mexico got busy fighting the cartels. Thousands of lives have been lost due to their violence and the poisonous drugs they sell. It is widely known that the Mexican authorities have turned a blind eye to the murderous activity in their own country.

Headlines today said that the violence had died down. I's say it has either gone below the radar or it is now business as usual. It remains to be seen whether the Mexican government continues it's crackdown on the cartels or tells the world it was all for show.

One of the recent headlines concerned Americans that were stranded in the midst of the battle in the street. If I'm not mistaken a few weeks ago there was a DHS warning not to travel to Mexico. Some people just don't listen. I hope they get out safe, but if not who do you think they will blame?

I know I will insult some people, but I just do not understand why anyone would want to go to a "3rd World" Country.
Many of which are in a tropical warm climate.

It's a shame because if they really focused on those areas from a business/tourist standpoint that could wind up helping the entire country.

This morning l listened to standup comic Orney Adam’s podcast. He was there. It was scary. He‘a safe now but while it’s happening one never knows. The all-inclusive ran out of a lot of food. He said Tuesday was just pancakes (this may have been comic exaggeration), though he did add there was great bread and fruit. He and his friend were searching the place for escape routes, etc.

As much as he loved the Mexican people, he’ll never go back.
