Microchipping Newborns in the Future

Was hoping for just a short explanation of what it is. Is it just photo ID - which is fairly standard in Aus for lots of things. Usually a drivers licence or if you don't drive, is easy to get a proof of age card to use in its place.
I don't see that as a big deal.
It's more thorough than previous demands for a driver's license - more on the line of what's necessary for a passport, but definitely not a big deal.

I flew domestically frequently in the 1970s, No need to show anything besides my paper ticket to board a plane. No such thing as scanning one's luggage either.

Identification requirements changed as security needs escalated.

It's not really a big deal here, either; there are just a couple of hoops to jump through. I think I needed to submit proof of address (e.g., a utility bill—I used a copy of my lease), a birth certificate, a Social Security card. It was a bit like getting a passport.

Flying domestically used to be like riding the bus.

I’m not sure that we are any safer today than we were then.

Then you will not fly.
I was at the Department of Interior in DC ready to pick up a major purchase. Green Card only does not fly. Come back with your passport.
I wasn't talking about flying...I was responding to the OP about microchipping babies. I will edit my reply to clarify that. I have no intention of flying anyway. I have boycotted the airlines for about 2 decades. But if I have to (it would have to be a dire emergency with my son or grandchild(ren), I have my passport and a passport card.

No boycott here. Just no more need. Our last transatlantic was planned out to give me my multi/instructor/atp for a fraction of tuition in the US. It did not happen.
I have a passport and ID. What we need to reach nowadays can be done by car in 24 hours or a charter.

If you don't mind me asking...why didn't it happen?

Where I travel to most these days (Atlantic City, N.J.) can be reached in less than 2 hours by car and 2.5 hours by bus (limited stops). I'm still pondering whether or not to go to our family reunion which will be held in Charlotte, N.C. this year. If I do go, I'll be traveling on Amtrak.

We were ready to buy the plane but could not find insurance to cover the old Northern route to Europe. SO could have certified me for everything. Oh well.
Please go to the family reunion. You will have a great time.

If that ever happens, one can be certain their will be surgical services even if illegal for removing such devices and even planting in devices of others in order to gain special accesses.
Yeah there was someone in Sweden that fried his hand chip by using a tens machine directly on it. There will be ways to scan and steal info/id, and ways to destroy it. Nothing is perfect.

Don't hold your breath, @Beezer. Ain't gonna happen.

Using today's technology to address tomorrow's issues can be a waste of resources. Twenty five years ago I thought, if I ever built a house I'd wire it with ethernet ports in every wall. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I strongly oppose microchipping humans and animals. Why not use thermal imaging drone technology instead to locate missing people and pets? A less invasive approach to solve the problem.

North Country man finds missing Adirondack pets using thermal drone
I love thermal imaging technology.

My volunteer fire department obtained a hand held thermal imaging device in 2002 and the first time we used it was to help a search for an autistic child believed to be lost somewhere in our woods. That device located him almost right away. One frigid winter morning in 2005 it helped us find an elderly man with dementia in those woods.
