Microwave check?

Found out the other day when using our microwave if only push the start button on its own it auto runs for 30 seconds,no need to set the timer, just wondering if they all do that?

Some do, some don't. Our last one did. The new one has a special 30 second button that starts the oven by itself. It will also add 30 seconds to whatever other time you set. Also, the 1 through 5 buttons will run 1 through 5 minutes with one push. Some microwaves have a set time button that must be pressed first.

I remember our first microwave just had a set time dial and start and stop buttons. It lasted a long time.

Mine's new and it sounds similar to Grandpa Don's. You hit the 1 button and it automatically goes for 1 minute, 2...2 mins etc.

It has it's own separate 30sec button . They're making it easier and easier to cook your own food. Everyone's in such
a hurry these days. :)

Mine have all done that...I use it far more often than the timer. For example.. reheat a cuppa tea ..( 1000 watt micro) 2 consecutive presses of 30 seconds

Steam some veggies in a micro steam pot ... 6 presses of 30 seconds ..etc...

I don't know if my old one did or not. But this small GE I've had about 3 years does and I discovered it by accidently pushing the button. Now I use it a lot.

How many here have actually read the instruction manual that came with the microwave?

Believe it or not, I download and read them before I buy anything electronic. Sometimes I find features or lack of features that affect my decision.

I store my instruction manuals in case I ever need to read them. Which is why my kids had to inform me about the nifty things the microwave can do with its buttons.

A little bit . It helped too.

My husband investigates everything before purchasing. He also reads the instruction manual. I keep him or the manual handy just in case I might need info.

P.S. He staples the receipt inside the manual. When we decide to get rid of something, it’s interesting to see what we paid and when.

Here's a tip to make your microwave last longer. Don't make it a practice to open the door while it's running. It will shut off, but there is a tiny switch inside that carries the full current to the magnetron. It's meant as a safety device, but overuse will eventually burn it out and the oven will be dead. My wife used to do this and I had to replace that switch twice in our old oven. I put a sign on the door "Wait for the beep."
