Someone cleaned mine with an abrasive cloth and ruined it....that's all I got!

Not a disaster, but a misunderstanding.

When I was a Safety Officer I had a phone call asking how to get rid of microwaves.

I replied the best way is to stop transmitting, but since this is not usually practicable some form of screening is best.

Long pause. "Can we not put them in the trash, like toasters?"!

always I have used one - but few years ago I went into kitchen -- to switch it on and BAM EXPLODED WOWEEEEE' ball of flame
there was food in it like always no metal -- jeez it frightened me to death ' but just brought a new one month ago good make chrome inside - easy cleaner '

I tried to make homemade popcorn.. Take a small brown paper bag, add some popcorn and a bit of oil, then put it in the microwave for "x" amount of time. Well, I way overcooked it and it turned into a raging smoke bomb.

One Thanksgiving, out of nowhere, our microwave started billowing out huge clouds of acrid, black smoke, while we heated a dish. We had a full house of folks. I had to make a run to Walmart, which was open, thankfully, and buy a new one. The house smelled terrible, and our feast was subdued, to say the least.

One of the first times I used a microwave (unfortunately, it wasn't mine but at least it was my father's, so he had to keep on loving me....), I decided to try to cook some chicken livers. Did you know that chicken livers will "explode" in a microwave? I didn't. I do now. Do you know how hard it is to clean exploded chicken livers off the entire interior of a microwave? I do.

My son in law put a cup of water in the micro wave and it didn't look like it was boiling but when he moved it the water splattered all over his hand. I think they call it over boil

@jujube , they explode a little in a frying pan, too! Poor you!

Sorry, long time members for this repeat, but for newer friends.....

I know a lady who's husband put a brandy snifter with a thin metallic rim with Grand
Marnier in it, into the microwave to "warm" it for a few seconds. BLAM! A spark ignited the alcohol and the whole thing went up in flames.

The best part is- he was a firefighter!

Foster daughter burnt popcorn in ours. Hardest thing in the world to get the smell out of. Tried everything,and now I can`t remember what actually worked lol. Boiling white vinegar? Coffee grounds? Sheesh,I just can`t remember.
