Migrants in Texas: US 'to fly thousands back to Haiti'

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-58607603

How do we humanely deal with this? Is it possible? I hate seeing people treated badly, or in bad situations. However I also believe we need to control our borders and stop illegal immigration. How can we reconcile all this?

Did Garrett Hardin get it right? Didn't used to think so, but now I am wondering.

The current administration openly promised to implement an open border policy if elected. The were elected and on day one, implemented the policy. Promise made, promise kept. They are only implementing the will of the people.

The only problem with that statement is it's completely opposite of what the title of the thread (and facts) state. It's simply not consistent with reality. How can we have open borders and at the same time, a policy of flying refugees back to where they came?

I'd be interested in hearing the actual facts, I can find many references that 100,000's of people have been entering the country over the southern border every month. Can you please provide a specific reference as to how many of those people who have entered the country have been deported to date?

thanks

Official: US to expel Haitians from border, fly to Haiti

https://apnews.com/article/texas-mi...order-mexico-14cc4765f758df5aaf6fa546525416b7

DEL RIO, Texas (AP) — The Biden administration plans the widescale expulsion of Haitian migrants from a small Texas border city by putting them on flights to Haiti starting Sunday, an official said Friday, representing a swift and dramatic response to thousands who suddenly crossed the border from Mexico and gathered under and around a bridge.

Details are yet to be finalized but will likely involve five to eight flights a day, according to the official with direct knowledge of the plans who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. San Antonio, the nearest major city, may be among the departure cities.

Another administration official speaking on condition of anonymity expected two flights a day at most and said all migrants would be tested for COVID-19.

(snip)

The flight plan, while potentially massive in scale, hinges on how Haitians respond. They may face a choice: stay put at the risk of being sent back to their impoverished homeland -- wracked by poverty, political instability and a recent earthquake — or return to Mexico. Unaccompanied children are exempt from fast-track expulsions.

Well, it's an interesting problem because we have the same thing going on her in Canada but on a different and lesser scale. The government says "we welcome all immigrants." That is nice but you got to really think things through what all these immigrants mean for the future. When your population increases, you have more pollution, more traffic, more crime and more congestion. You will also have to build more schools, more hospitals, which means hiring more teachers, more nurses, more doctors and bigger cities and more social services. All of this costs money. Are you interested in your taxes going up 50%? I bet you are not! Right now, just in the province where I live there are 2,000 jobs for nurses that need to be filled. It's nice to think that we are "goody, goody two shoes" type of people and we can save the world but we can't. There is a huge population problem in this world and no one wants to talk about it. Birth control anyone?

......Bonnie, I went back and read the rest of article that I posted and it states that many of these people have been in Mexico for a while and that US and Mexico are working out a deal on how to handle this expulsion.

I am not sure that is true, I have heard others say it but can find no evidence that Biden promised to implement an open board policy. He did promise many changes, some of which would allow more migrant entry, but I can't find anything nearly so broad as a promise of open borders. Can you point out something supporting this claim? See: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...to-change-immigration-heres-how-idUSKBN29K1X1

Not saying I like or agree with all that was promised or has been done, I don't. Just trying to understand the truth of the story.

I read that they rode buses while in Mexico, but Mexico's authorities stopped the buses when they got to the state bordering Texas, they then had to walk...Don't know how they got from Haiti to Mexico, would be interesting to find out.

Title of thread is correct.

Per many news sources on the Internet this morning, there are to be 5 to 8 flights a day taking these people back to their homeland.
It's gotten out of hand, and they don't want violence.
I find this weird. How the heck did Haitians get to Mexico and then the US border? One family said they came via Bolivia. What's going on here?

Have read in different places on the Internet that many have been 'gathering' in Mexico for some months now,
and they were given the ALL CLEAR to head for the US border last week, on the 8th I think. .

You can find "immigration channels" (utube) on the Internet that provide them with information about when to make their moves.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/02/us/politics/biden-immigration-executive-orders-trump.html

As a candidate, Mr. Biden vowed to once again welcome immigrants to American shores by quickly rolling back hundreds of actions by President Donald J. Trump that were aimed at deporting immigrants and shutting the country off from those seeking work or refuge.

https://www.yahoo.com/now/forecast-1-8m-illegal-migrants-110700666.html

More than 1.8 million illegal immigrants are expected to cross the U.S.-Mexico border this year, making it the “worst ever” on record, highlighting President Joe Biden’s failed policies, according to a new forecast.

Whether by plan or by accident, the border was largely under control until action taken by the current administration. The number of immigrants quoted are low since they only represent those who were "apprehended". No one knows how many evade the authorities and enter unimpeded.

I can sympathize with people trying to find a better life....BUT I don't think the US should be accepting thousands of immigrants simply because they find a way through our borders. Anyone wanting to enter this nation should do so Legally, IMO. After all, the Last thing we need is thousands more on Welfare.

I agree the number of illegal crossings is up, and that may well be due in large part to the change in policies that came in with the new administration. But it is far short of the disaster that "open borders" would be. And I do not believe "the border was largely under control" prior to the new administration. Just not as bad.

The problem is far too many want to, we just can't accept most people who want in. I think we probably let too many people in legally now...
