Missing Pitt student on spring break in the Dominican Republic? Foul play?

WhatInThe

This has been going for a while now a Pitt student in the Domincan Republic on a spring break vacation has disappeared. At first I was thinking Natile Holloway who was murdered by the local kid years ago in Aruba. Here it may not be a local suspect.

Pitt student Sudiksha Konanki’s disappearance in the DR being probed as possible foul play

But then I was thinking about the Hawaii student who went off the grid for a while eventually to resurface after her father committed suicide not being able to find her.

To completely disappear with many people down there this time of year is pretty hard to do unless it's done on purpose. So was she disappeared or did she disappear on her own?

i find it kinda odd that the guy she was swimming with, didn't call for help after the woman disappeared, but instead collapsed on the beach and fell asleep. wouldn't the adrenaline and the fact that she didn't resurface get you running for help? now they are saying there was a threat of riptides in the area. something isn't right.

So she was last seen by friends at 4 am....... with this young man she met in the last day.... in a foreign country.
Sounds like the start of a bunch of criminal minds episodes.

I know young people seem to think nothing will happen to them ... they feel invincible so they do not take precautions like having a friend wing man.

This young ladies family must be beside themselves all while the media brings up Natalie Holloway whose body has never been found. Stories that change over and over by this guy.... sounds very familiar.

I'm just happy to see the police are all over it and it is still being covered. So many times, young women of color who go missing never even make the news. So many Indigenous woman go missing every year and nothing is ever covered. This really came to light when cute, blonde Gabby Petito went missing and it was all that was in the news. Her parents are really doing some honorable work in her name.

We are taking a Caribbean cruise late next week. I traveled to Miami in March 2023 during Spring Break and swore I'd never do it again but here we are! We are flying into Ft. Lauderdale this time. Miami was a nightmare in 2023. It took over an hour to get my luggage.:(

When you're young, you think nothing bad can happen. I remember going to Guadeloupe with Club Med. Being out on the beach, middle of the night, with two guys I did not know. Only thing, is that I did not drink alcohol or do drugs at that time, so I was definitely with it. But still dangerous to do, I guess. Mind you both guys were with Club Med too. And we just walked along the beach, and then one guy took off, and the other guy and myself started making out. Mind you. there were a lot of other people making out on the beach, so maybe not so dangerous.

IMO, the authorities probably have turned this tragedy into a recovery and away from a rescue. It’s been a long time (9 days) since she was last seen alive. There are lots of people and different departments looking for her. The Navy, FBI, local police, Loudon County Sheriff’s Dept., and other sources have been searching for her.

The young man that was last seen with her gave a credible interview according to the local police and FBI. (Although I did hear that a polygraph is pending.) It’s really narrowing down to the fact that drowning may be the cause for her to be missing. Alcohol and swimming is not a good mix. Many colleges and universities give out warnings via pamphlets & posters to students heading for spring break. One of the most important items on the list is that students going on spring break should partner up with a friend and stick together when going out.

It’s unfortunate that many of the students don’t mind the rule, especially if they “hook up” with another individual. Like others have posted, many young people feel they are invincible. Alcohol gives them the needed courage to go off with the “new friend” that they just met. This is something that they probably wouldn’t do if they were sober. Just like many adults, alcohol changes their thinking and sometimes their personality.

I am with everyone else, I hope they do find or recover her. I have seen the results of when parents get the news that their child will no longer be coming home. It’s tragic and heartbreaking at the same time for the families, but if they at least have the child to bury, it does help them to recover from the horror of often thinking about the child being drowned. That is a horrific way to die.

Sorry for the extended post.

I watched this story 3 times. I thought the police could have done a better job. I put myself as a LE officer in the cop’s place and I thought even though the young lady was over 18, I would have contacted her parents and advised them of the situation and also recommended that they pleaded with their daughter to fly home now.

She appeared to be stressed and he appeared to be somewhat elusive during questioning. I didn’t think there was much doubt that their trip was over and they needed to be separated for awhile, which meant to me that she needed to go home given the facts of all that happened. I think I would have offered her a ride to the airport just to make it happen. But, it’s water under the bridge now.

Yup, I'm not buying that guy's story, either. I don't think the cops are, too. But without a body, he can't prove he did, or did not cause her death. My guess is she's in a "shallow grave", not in the water.

The last I read was that the parents are asking police to declare the young lady dead and will be sending the police a “Declaration of Death.”

As for the young man, Riibe, it’s reported that he will be returning to the U.S. Wednesday evening or Thursday morning. The police now consider him a witness and not a person of interest. My guess is that the police are now satisfied with his story.

After reading what others at the beach told police, it appears that she did drown. The waves were high and the sea was rough that night. According to a few onlookers at the beach, they thought that rip tides were a possibility. I was caught in one myself about 10 years ago and they can be very difficult to get out of when sober, let alone when drinking.

Riibe Returning to U.S.

How long must a person be missing in the U.S. before they can be declared dead? I thought is was longer than this young girl has been missing. Maybe seven years?
