I wonder if the dog was hostile to the man on the ATV who found the child? My friend was in a car accident with her Great Dane in the car and her dog (a wonderful sweet dog usually) wouldn't let the emergency squad near her for a while, no doubt the dog thought she was protecting her owner while she was too hurt to protect herself.
I also wonder why the dogs didn't nudge the little girl back home? I had a large herding dog, a Bearded Collie, who I couldn't take for a jog or a walk, because his whole focus was toward pushing me off the sidewalk away from the cars on the street.

Maybe Rottweilers don't herd as much as they protect, or maybe the dogs were lost, too?
I'm glad for the happy ending.
