Modern Movies Versus Older Ones A Reflection of A Culture Going Down.

I enjoy movies from the 30 and 40's mostly when people had to act instead of relying on special effects to make the movie good. Here is my problem deciding on whether or not to watch. When I look up newer movies I have no idea who the actors are! I recall talking to a young employee at work years back and we got on the subject of movies and for some reason I mentioned Erroll Flynn and he responded, "who is Erroll Flynn". That ended the conversation.

Movies now have to be as graphic as possible including vomiting. Who needs to see that? Does that add to the film? Now we have to have women killing and fighting as often as men. What's next, children? Every other word is F***. Sex has to be included regardless of the plot. Speaking of plots gun violence seems to overtake plots now. I am uneasy with swearing in front of kids in films and to be honest I don't like The Simpsons or Family Guy animated series that show violence against children. Is that funny? Our culture is getting more grotesque by the day. Not good. There is a tidal wave of Zombie movies and TV series now. Why Zombies? Is it because with so many kids on drugs in the western cultures that they identify somehow more with zombies than active, happy people?

I usually like older movies as well, but I try not to dismiss out-of-hand newer movies; in fact, I have quite a few "modern" ('60's-'90's) favorites. Compared to them, the acting in the older movies seems stilted and boring.

I agree that the violence and gore sometimes goes a bit overboard. The language also.

I like the old movies also but the one thing that stands out in my mind is the smoking, all the stars were filmed with a cigarette, of course that doesn't hold a candle to the newer movies with all the sex and violence. As far as the Zombies, I don't get it either but to be fair, when I was growing up in the 50's we had a lot of horror movies and we watched the old Frankenstein,Dracula and mummy movies from way back when. A lot of gore in those. We are non drinkers and I have nothing against anyone enjoying a glass of wine with their meals or after dinner. With that said, for lack of something better to do,and I do have to be desperate, I will watch those made for TV movies. Ever notice the amount of wine shown in those movies? Everybody has to have a wine glass in their hands while being filmed. Even while talking to their young kids they are slurping away. By the time I'm done sitting through one of those movies I need something much stronger than wine.

I agree that the acting in old movies is stilted and somewhat "corny." I don't care for explicit sex nor violence so I carefully consider movies I want to watch. I usually don't see new releases in the theater but wait for them to be on cable; then I can just change the channel.
