I've gotten scam emails here and there, not sure what precipitates them. Here's a screenshot of the latest:
What's really amusing to me is that I don't buy antivirus software- no need to as I use Linux...they don't know that though.
A couple months ago I got a scam email that "confirmed" my purchase of bitcoin through my Paypal account. I double-checked my PP account just to make sure it hadn't been hijacked.
One thing in common that these scam emails have, is that they try to lure you into calling their 'customer service' number that's listed in the email. The only thing I can think of, is that they figure that a person would call that number, which the scammer could in turn use to send more scams or malware though text messages. The scam wouldn't work if the victim uses a landline.
