More gristle and bone chips in ground beef

On the infrequent occasions I buy ground beef, it seems lately there is more extraneous matter in it. I don't buy the cheap generic labeled just "ground beef" either - it's ground sirloin 90-95% lean. I hate biting down on a bone fragment, especially if it's a sharp piece. If swallowed, it could puncture innards somewhere.
Has anyone else noticed this?

They're there for the weight. And you're paying as much for gristle and bone fragments as for actual meat.

Better to buy cuts of beef than ground beef. That means goodbye to meatloaf, spaghetti with meatballs, and Hamburger Helper, but that's the trade-off.

I don't recall finding any bone in my ground beef when I've bought it at the store. When I buy, it's usually an 80/20 ground chuck. Anything more than 20% fat is too much grease & anything less than that is too dry.

I have 4 or 5 times in my entire life. Very small, slightly bigger than a few grains of sand. I'm pretty sure it was bovine bone, but can't rule out other possibilities.
