More poop-outs on Marketplace

I am having a "Christmas Sale" this coming weekend and advertised it in my usual online places. A few asked if they could come beforehand. I never turn away a potential customer. Set up appointments for this morning. I got PMs from all of them saying they couldn't make it or realized I was too far away to make it worth the trip. I guess I can't complain, at least they let me know; most no-shows don't.

This shows some of the items I have (3 pages):

I've been ghosted twice (last month and this week) by the same person for the same item after saying she was coming. After being a no-show, doesn't answer follow-up messages. I guess reporting doesn't really do any good about these people.

I have sold many things on Facebook marketplace. If someone asks a question, I answer it. If they set a date and time to come, I tell them to text me 10 minutes before they will arrive and I will come down with the item.

If they don’t show up I never follow up by Texting them. I put the ball in their court and if they’re really interested, they will text me again to make another appointment. Because people can be flakes it’s one reason why I don’t bother with anything that will not bring me at least $20. It’s just too much effort for less money.

I always make people pick up things at my home because of people flaking out. I have had people want me to deliver or meet them somewhere and I always say no. If they can’t make the effort to get to my house when I live right in town, then they really don’t want the item.

Most of the people that contact me want to do meet-ups. I don't do that. I learned my lesson when I did my aunt's estate. Spent hours waiting in a cold car for no-shows.
I am amazed at how frightened most people are of actually coming to my house for a porch pick-up. Society and publicity has made people think everyone else is a homicidal maniac. I admit I'm a nut, but a harmless one, however others wouldn't know that.

I’m surprised they’re afraid to pick it up from the porch. I totally understand them not wanting to come in a house. I had a desk for sale once and once the people said they were 10 minutes away. I put it out in the hallway since there was no way, I could take it down the three flights of steps. I didn’t want them to come inside my condo.

I have a table with miscellaneous items in the garage. If someone is coming for a pickup or to view, I open the garage door. No one inside the house anymore. I had a couple of ladies comment on my art. I didn’t consider either one of them a problem, but it did waken me to what they were spotting.

Adding: If it’s free, I leave it on the steps.

There a person in my town that responds to every post I make on marketplace, "----- ------ likes your post.", but she never offers to buy anything. It's so annoying to me that I blocked her.
What a shame!
Her followers can see that she "likes" what you have, and that can give them the opportunity to also see what you are selling.

I hate selling something. They always want a thing that's worth 200 euro for 20 bucks or so or yeah great I want it for what you ask. Great! You did see that it's a smaller sized ping pong table right? Oh. No I didn't. And they all hadn't seen it. Just no response anymore. Costed me a whole weekend. I was like: Lets just keep it. But buying stuff is great. I always just offer what they ask and pick it up at their house. Last time I had to stand in line. He sold vinyl to me and first a bike to them.

I just wonder if most people don't even read the descriptions. Seems like most just look at the photo. One woman wanted a Santa figure, but when she arrived said it was much larger than she expected. I told her that the dimensions were in the ad. She just looked blankly at me.

Or there's a bot that just responds to every post.

I have a double bed in my guest room and the mattress and boxspring are 15 years old. I decided that I wanted to buy a new twin bed as that would give more room and if I had a couple spend the night, I would give them my room.

So I put the mattress, boxspring, topper, sheets, and comforter all for one low price of $50 and sold it in a day. My friend and I were going to put the mattress and boxspring in the hallway once I knew he was on the way, but I didn’t bank on him only living seven minutes from me. So when I received the text I had to just go down to let him in. My friend came over so that I wouldn’t be alone.

It turned out it was the nicest young man who was thrilled to be getting all that stuff for $40. I was glad that I didn’t have to send the mattress and boxspring to the dump as it was still in decent condition to sleep on. The store that I’m buying the new mattress from would’ve taken the old one away, but then they would’ve thrown it away.

spoiled seems wrong word - they have made it easier for people so that becomes their preferred method rather than buying second hand from garage sales, home sellers and the like

Same here. I contacted one that's a new business and asked if they buy Christmas things from people. They said they have more than enough right now added to the fact their Christmas season is almost over.

Like the rest of my excess possessions, I wished my mom had taken the money she used to buy things no one wants and invested it is some lucrative assets.

They even had boxes of free Christmas stuff out the front of the huge shed / shop and no one was taking them.

…..as for me I bought fowlers preserving jars / lids 18 jars for $7 ..which are $10 each new …..many bought preserving items during lockdown ( paid top $$$ for items and postage ) now they are over loading ops shops with items bought in a panic during lockdowns
