HOUSTON (AP) — A Houston mother was charged after authorities allege she placed her 13-year-old son in the trunk of her car to isolate him after he tested positive for COVID-19, then took him to a drive-thru testing site.

The 41-year-old is charged with endangering a child after authorities allege her son was found on Monday in her car’s trunk at a testing site for the Cypress-Fairbanks school district in northwest Houston.

The woman is a teacher with the school district, which says the child was not harmed.

The mother told a district official that she put her son in the trunk to prevent her from getting exposed to COVID-19 while taking him for additional testing.

Sarah Beam, 42, of Harris County, Texas, has been charged with child endangerment and has a warrant for her arrest after her son, 14, was found in her trunk when she arrived at a drive-thru COVID-19 testing site at Ken Pridgeon stadium

The teen was not harmed during the incident, Cy-Fair ISD spokeswoman Leslie Francis said in a statement.

Beam recently worked as a teacher in the district but is currently on administrative leave, Francis said.

Harris County currently has 100,000 COVID-19 cases with a seven-day average of 10,000. Texas has had almost a 400 percent increase in cases in the last two weeks.

I just had a thought ..since I put that picture online.. little did that mother think yesterday when she 'popped'' her son in the trunk, to get to the covid centre that her face would be shown to the whole of the western world by the morning... .*yikes*

Some people are so stupid, they'll do something terrible & see nothing wrong with it. And they're often proud of it & think it's a joke.
Examples: my mom & my brother

This doesn't even make any sense. He tested positive, so she was taking him for "additional testing?" I don't get it.

Sounds like a mentally disturbed parent who was punishing the kid (for testing positive?)

Some see nothing wrong with it they wave their stupidity like a banner saying look at me....

She will be oblivious as others point and smile / laugh
She as already noted was exposed ... this was totally the result of the media fear machine in overdrive.

On the news tonight they showed police at her door to arrest her and she was not home. So she is out and about and I wonder where the child was. That was the 10 PM news so I hope they have found her by now.
The plot thickens. She's not home with a covid + kid and she's been exposed. She's a real freak. Her job is gone, I hope that her children go to someone else. She shouldn't be around kids in any capacity.

Ah! The media loves these "nut case" stories. If I was that 14 year old kid, I would punch out that mama of mine. I have worked with school teachers all my adult life and I never meet such a nut. Of course, I never taught school in Houston, Texas. Maybe, them folks there do things a might bit different than us here north of the border.

The mother was described as a schoolteacher. Sometimes (correction, often times) the media stretches the facts for a better story. What kind of school, what’s her education?

I'm sure she's abuisve in other ways; she just hasn't been caught yet.
The kid should be taken away from her - while he's still alive.

I just have the picture in my head of a parent seeing this on news .... then asking their kid "didn't you have her as teacher last year? "

I was surprised that the arrest of the teacher had nothing to do with having sex with a student.

I heard this earlier today and couldn't figure out why the kid was in the trunk...thanks for clearing it up🤔
