I had a functioning (not fully functioning) Alcoholic Mother who ended up in a couple of car wrecks and
the cars looked like they had been in a crusher but she walked away from them with only a few scratches
I implored her time and again to stop and her reply was 'I can stop whenever I want' and I said 'Why don't you?'
Every time I asked her the inevitable answer was 'Because I don't want to'
I gave up in the end :confused:

IMO, anyone who causes an accident while driving drunk, or under the influence of drugs, and causes injuries, should be charged with Assault. If they kill someone, the charges should be increased to vehicular homicide, or 2nd degree murder.

In all my years I have never seen anything more frightening then soccer mom plowing into that house. The guy in the gray car must have been like WTH was that?

I think drunk driving should be frowned upon, avoided etc. But MADD and others have also advocated and gave birth to dui check points. Not a fan of check points/random 'investigations' into any crime. But MADD makes a lot of people think twice about driving drunk, getting a designated driver and/or taxi. It's no longer just another traffic offense in most states. And in many cases they've able to hold servers responsible to an extent. In the end it's a personal responsibility to stop drinking and stop drinking and driving.

There are still people out there that look at a dui as a badge of honor and resent having paying the consequences like raised insurance-oh well. Still wondering how people with a 1/2 dozen offenses in less than a decade wind up on the road.

The fight now will expand to intoxicated driving which is a little more tricky legal wise. Problem is there are several generations out there that weren't around before MADD and their attitude towards pot etc is just like that of the drunk prior to MADD.
