Moving, that will be some experience.

When we moved about 6 years ago, we got rid of a ton of stuff. I went through everything and got rid of duplicates and stuff I hadn't used for a long time. For clothes especially, I would ask myself if I would buy it now. If no, it was given away. There is no reason to keep things that don't fit or don't look good. We called one of those junk removal places for some stuff, which wasn't as expensive as I thought and was so easy.

We just recently moved from Ohio to Florida - 880 miles - and are still unpacking. I had Old Dominion freight company drop a 28' trailer in the Ohio drive way, had my grandson and a couple of his friends load up most of the stuff. I did all the boxing of stuff, which was a lot because my SO had lived in the same Ohio house for approx 42 years, and had not thrown much away. We filled up most of the 28' trailer. Old Dominion picked up the trailer on Monday, delivered to our Florida home on Thursday evening. I had a local crew (2 men) show up on Friday to unload. It took them 4 hours.

ABF provides the same service as Old Dominion, and I'm sure there are others. Old Dominion charge was about 3,400, and it was about $400 to load and another $400 to unload.

My lovely SO is slowly figuring out that she brought a ton of stuff that she should have donated back in Ohio, but that is okay, since this is a new experience for her. For example, she had 4 or 5 large boxes of shoes, and 3 or 4 medium boxes of purses, and 10 large wardrobe boxes of hanging clothes plus another 6 or 8 medium boxes of folding clothes. This is my 5th move since I retired in 2008, so I have shed all the nonessentials. Best of luck!

Wishing you well in your upcoming adventure .... Hope all goes well @PamfromTx
Have never driven 5 hours on the inland roads from the valley .... only know the route along the coast from Padre to Corpus, etc.

I expect to be moving by the end of summer and I dread what I'll have to sift through.
Roger That.
May I suggest starting now? I'm trying to do a little every day to avoid the last minute rush.
I'm headed far far away so whatever stuff isn't given away will get tossed. Selling it is just a pain so I'll gladly (?) take the loss.
Everything Goes! You get some and You get some and You get some . . .

I moved last year during Covid restrictions. Best advice I can give is to start early and get rid of more than you originally intend. BUT think carefully about things you will miss and can't easily replace. Take care of car maintenance and healthcare before you leave, as finding new people takes time==dr, dentist, etc.

I can't imagine making a major move to Central Texas after living in the Rio Grande Valley for 22 years. We have accumulated so much and are MUCH older to do all the packing, etc. And how in the world will we take / tow the 2nd vehicle? Just having thoughts. I'm sounding like @debodun, no pun intended.

I will miss all the awesome stores, etc. that they have here. What can I say, I am a shopaholic as well as a chocoholic. lol There are not any specialists either back home! I would have to drive to the nearest city (San Antonio).

Good thing I don't own a pup; he'd be terrified of my driving to S.A. where I'd drop him/her off at my sis-in-law during medical visits, etc.

P.S. Only serious and non-critical comments are welcome.

Where are you moving in central Texas, Pam? We live not far from Brenham. Just wondered.

We are in the middle of all this right now. Moving from California to Idaho but currently staying at our daughter`s until the house we are going to temporarily rent in Idaho is ready. All of our things are in storage and we did get rid of lots of stuff .We will be doing another clean out between now and moving day though. Hoping the house is ready in the next week or so as this vagabond life is getting old lol.

Uvalde, Texas. Brenham is quite far.

Thanks for the kind tips and for your concern, peeps. Much appreciated.

Now, to finish birthday preparations for tomorrow.
Hope you like it there Pam...son wanted to go there to drive a "tank" with the grandson, but they haven't made it out there yet.
Its not far from San Antonio, so that should be nice, too.
